  P4 cooling recommendations???
Posted by: bgowland - 2005-03-26, 06:11 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Can anyone recommend from experience a good P4 cooler? I'm finding that even with comskip set to playnice, depending on what else is running, the CPu usage is going 80-90% and more. This heats the CPU to over 60 degC and the surrounding mobo area to over 50 degC causing the Intel Active Monitoring to beep at me every so ofyen as it's thresholds are being crossed.

My case is a 19inch rackmount with one front 120mm intake fan and two rear 80mm expelling fans. The room it's in gets reasonably warm this time of year (west-facing with a large window) and like an oven in the summer.

I don't want anything too over the top (urrm, liquid cooling for example) just something more efficient than the standard retail-box P4 heatsink/fan. Some people I know have mentioned CoolerMaster fans (but not a specific model) and I've also seen the Arctic Cooling Freezer 4 which one reviewer claimed dropped his average CPU temp. from over 50 degC to around 25 degC and the surrounding mobo area down by 10 degC.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received otherwise I'm going to have to relocate my mediaserver when the summer comes.

Cheers,
Brian

  Update EPG Not Working
Posted by: CactusJack - 2005-03-26, 05:45 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hello, all. I'm new to GB-PVR, having just installed v09108 (that's from the downloaded file name; not sure where to find the version within the software). All setup seemed to complete successfully, but when I elect to update the EPG, it starts up and shows "Requesting listing information from Zap2it.com", but never completes. My login on Zap2it works, showing Active status.

I'm in the US, running Windows XP SP2. Date and time on system are correct. I've disabled my firewall and tried. Watching the connection lights on my router, it seems to be active for several minutes after initiating an update, then traffic just stops. I've searched these forums, but found no resolution.

Suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thanx,
Jack

  DVB-C (KNCONE) & PVRs
Posted by: markku_maenpaa - 2005-03-26, 05:43 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

Hi,

I just made a fast plunge in the PVR world. I happened to buy a KNCONE DVB-C Plus card. I tested it with Media Center 2005 and to my suprise I found out that it does not work with it. When I asked KNCONE support they answered that MCE2005 does not generally support DVB-C cards due to legal reasons (PayTV).

Now I am looking for a software which supports this (or other C) card.

Can somebody shed some light in this matter as I am confused why all T & S cards seem to be OK but C cards not.

I have only so far investigated SageTV, Meedio (which actually sees the driver but does not do anything), GAM.

Wow, alot happened in the last week or so!

I haven't been checking the forum, and went in today, and I had to do the whole login thing again. I wasn't ready for all of this. A new version and everything.
I copied and renamed the gbpvr folder, installed overtop. No problems! I love it. I did a quick check, everything seems good. The only things I had to edit back were the Time & Recording now/soon part of the skin, and re-enter the manual brightness setting I have in the direct.ini.
I've been trying to catch up on the forum, but I'm having trouble finding out where to start. What all is new?
GBPVR is now correctly detecting all conflicts with my 2 sources on the same card! I'm going to have to try all of the wmv/avi stuff now. (I guess I shouldn't hope for *.mov huh? I like downloading trailers. I have been converting the mov - mpg, kinda a pain, but it works.

  Blackgold GDI DVB-T
Posted by: osbald - 2005-03-26, 04:09 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (11)

Hi,

I've recently bought one of these dvb-t cards, but I'm having great trouble finding alternative PVR software to support it. GBPVR seems to come the closest - assuming the "Blockgold GDI DVB-T" listed on the front page is the same card?

OK, It has BDA drivers as far as I know (using Windows XP SP2 not the MCE option) and the software installs OK, set the source, pick the local transmitter but whenever I try to map the EPG channels (scan for channels) I get the following error:

Debug Assertion Failed
Program: config.exe
File: c:\program files\microsoft visual studio .net 2003\vc7\atlmfc\include\atlcomcli.h
Line: 150
Expression: p!=0

Trying GBPVR09108.msi using the Blackgold Signature 5.11.107.43 drivers (according to the device manager).

Anybody actually had more sucess with this card?

Already struck out with snowshifter, sage tv, dvbcore, snapstream, meedio and tvedia and feeling more than a little stupid with this purchase.

Thanks,

- Richard

  PriorityRecording error
Posted by: Hugh - 2005-03-26, 01:05 PM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - Replies (16)

I'm running version 90.10 of GB-PVR

Now and then, a cmd window pops up with these lines in it:

c:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr>cd c:\programs files\devnz\gbpvr
c:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr>PriorityRecording.exe 1>recording.log

... and and error box pops up titled
"PriorityRecording.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services"
... that says
"Process id=0xe24(3620), Thread id=0x850(2128)

Any idea why? How can I 'fix' this?

  Episode maximum keep number
Posted by: brettsp - 2005-03-26, 12:55 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

I everyone, I really am beginning to love gbpvr. One thing that I wish it had, that my replay and tivo have, is a setting to keep only a certain number of episodes. When the maximum number is reached it will start deleting the older ones. That way my hard drive does not get filled up if I go away for a few weeks.

Any thoughts

Thanks

  Hauppauge IRBlaster support/problem
Posted by: Kim Madsen - 2005-03-26, 11:30 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,

After having evaluated ShowShifter, BeyondTV/BeyondMedia, MediaPortal, SnapStream, SageTV, Meedio, GBPVR and more, I ended up selecting GBPVR as the most complete and best working solution for my use!

I have setup IRBlaster to control my aging Nokia (with DVB2000 software) satelite receiver, and it works fine, first time I enter Live TV.

If I exit Live TV and reenter it, no IRBlaster codes are sent.

Any ideas?

BTW.. it would be cool to be able to have a feature for which one can send specific IRBlaster codes at specific times...

Ie. it would be nice to have GBPVR automatically turn on the receiver when GBPVR turns on, or before a channel is sent.
Also it could be nice to send other codes, for example remotecontrolled by the normal remote control somehow.

Hauppauges documentation is really poor (thats not even a strong enough word). Hence its not easy to see if its possible to configure IRRemote.ini to send codes on the irblaster.

Another little topic... FM support on the Hauppauge PVR150 card... I have tried to configure the FM plugin, but when using it, it says there are no FM support on the card. However other frontends who support FM receivers had no problem tuning in on FM.

GBPVR is really a cool piece of software which works better, faster and in most cases more reliable than the other, even commercial, products for HTPC use.

best regards
Kim Madsen

USB UIRT set up for Sky Digitial in NZ
Posted by: Geoff - 2005-03-26, 09:06 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

I am new user of GBPVR started my setup in Jan this year with a Hauppauge 350 - have upgraded thru the releases from 02313 to 0.91.8.
GBPVR is great I have managed to get most things operational but the lastest challenge is getting my USB UIRT to work.

I have a problem with changing channels with double digits e.g. 11, 55 etc
on a Pace DSR600 model sky digitial box.

This appears to be a different problem from previous postings, this set top box doesn't appear to have a different code for the repeated digit and the normal fix from USB UIRT support hasn't worked.

Does anyone have a working setup file for USB UIRT for this set top box.
I have also included the log and current USB UIRTsetup file

GBPVR.exe Log file indicates it sending the digits 10 in the first example and 11 in the second
