Intelligent estimation of the HDD space needed
Posted by: emitrom - 2004-11-07, 12:00 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (11)

Hi,

Just a note to say new user of gb-pcr and I think it is excellent. Bought a PVR-350, USB-UIRT, media MVP installed on a 2.4GHz P4 with ease.

My only two downs were to reset the whole PC easily, found plugin (GREAT!Wink, and this one once using GB in anger.

Please forgive this if this has already been covered... I looked throught the wish lists briefly and couldn't find it...

Intelligent estimation of the HDD space required

Problem:

I setup two programs to record then found that one had only recorded 1/2 hour and the other only 1 minute. Now I know its my fault for not checking the available space ( :-( ) but it would have been nice to be told that I didn't have enough space.

Solutions:

(1) In the configuration for gb-pvr you have the details of the amount of space direct recording/capture will take (Medium = 6MBit/s etc) so when a new program is added an estimation of the required sapce can be calculated and compared to the available HDD space with a warning given to the user if enough space is not available.

**OR**

(2) make the current settings available via an interface (don't know about your API's yet but I intend to have a look!Wink so that plug-in creators could use this info give the user a breakdown of the HDD without needing to connect up a monitor.

Another angle could be to allow the setting of the recording quailty from the interface at the same time so if the user is running out of space then s/he can select a low bitrate so as not to miss the program.

Please do not see this as a critism, this is a great piece of software that I would love to see made perfect (or as near as possible #### it!Wink

Also, another question for another topic really I should think is development environment. Can I assume from the system requirements of .Net that GB-PVR is written within that or was that required to access arcane pieces of the Windows XP environment :-> [Image: rock.gif]

  To all plugin developers

I'd like to encourage all plugin developers to add an entry for their plugin in the Plugin group of the documentation wiki.

Send me a mail with your prefered username and password, and you'll be on your way (This password thing is in order to prevent the wiki from being spammed.)

Jasonf have already made an excellent entry for the solitaire plugin.

[bug] Error message when exit GBPVR
Posted by: tybreizh29 - 2004-11-06, 07:30 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,
When I exit GBPVR or config.exe I get the following msg box.
.NET-BroadcastEventWindow.1.0.5000.0.5
WinXP+PVR-250+network connected
Internal Plugin : all but FM Radio
Plugins : Comics, XRecord, weather, Power M

I set log from error to debug -> works fine with config not with GBPVR.
Here is some logs, seem to deal with EPG update, but not sure:

  PVR 150
Posted by: phil - 2004-11-06, 06:56 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Will there be support for the new PVR 150?
My PVR 350 has given up the ghost and Hauppauge have stoped making the 250 and 350 this means I need to get a 150
and I would hate to stop using GBPVR after all it is the best there is. [Image: sad.gif]

  WinTV 150?

When is their support planned for this card? If in the next version, roughly when is that going to be released?

Two recording sources on same card
Posted by: jipe - 2004-11-06, 05:05 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I use GBPVR in combination with a Hauppauge PVR250. Until recently I just had one recording source set up, using the internal tuner.

There are also a few channels that I can only access through a settop box, though, so a few days ago I connected it to the composite in on the PVR250 and set up a second recording source for it (using USB UIRT to change channels).

Before setting it up I assumed the 250 would only be able to handle recording from one of the sources at a time (I haven't been able to find anything definitive in the Hauppauge manual), yet GBPVR didn't complain when I (accidentally) scheduled two overlapping recordings.

Neither of the two recordings came out okay, but apart from that, GBPVR handles recording from both sources flawlessly. I assume the problem is something do with my configuration, but I'm not quite sure what it could be. Has anybody else run into something similar?

FreqCopy, XMLTV Tools and use in the Netherlands
Posted by: eurojojo - 2004-11-06, 04:29 PM - Forum: Developers - No Replies

Hai,

I published FreqCopy one year ago, but did not put a good guide on the Web yet. I repaired that omission today.

Also I posted several other tools that I developed, and a guide on how to optimise the use of GB-PVR for the Netherlands. People from other countries may benefit from that too.

Comments are welcome, and I will try to answer any questions, as I have been doing with FreqCopy.

  PVR2 USB Problem
Posted by: pgk - 2004-11-06, 02:35 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

My PVR2 USB works fine under W2K SP4 with the SW from Hauppauge. Since Hauppauge SW does not support EPG I am looking 4 another solution. GB-PVR seems 2 be ok, but...

I managed to run the configuration and imported the EPG data.
I run the tuning assistant and get the messages 'connectPins failed!' and 'Failed to connect pinNameCrossbarVideoDecoderOut to pinNameCaptureAnalogVideoIn'. After this messages the channels are checked without error (no picture is shown).

When I start GB-PVR the IR is doesn't work. Going to LiveTV I get the message 'No Capture-Source was available...'.

I'm using
GB-PVR:        GB-PVR 0.227
Hauppauge: hcw2_4_22196_usb2

Any ideas what I do wrong?

  moving recordings' location
Posted by: stefan - 2004-11-06, 11:38 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I've finally figured out that it's not a good idea to have my recordings made with gbpvr and other videos in the same root directory. It gets weird and counterintuitive in the GUI when they all show up in "video library" :-)

So I went ahead and moved them (gbpvr recordings' location) to another directory. Then I changed this accordingly in the setup. Lo and behold, the recordings disappear from the "recordings" plugin! :-( So, I thought, it must be that they still have their old location in the database. So I moved it all back again, redid the settings, but they are still gone from the "recordings" plugin. Could I somehow get them back in there? :-)

Obviously, I can still watch them, because the files are still there, it's just a bit annoying =) And when I have watched them and deleted them the problem will be gone, because new recordings seem to show up in the plugin, at least =)
