what is sbe and can it be used with the pvr 350?

also what are the best decoders and renderers etc to use? should i install ffdshow?

I was hoping to setup NetMeeting on my HTPC so I could take-over the desktop from my main PC. I can run NetMeeting's desktop take-over just fine but when I try to run GBPVR while connected or even with NetMeeting waiting for a call I get this and GBPVR bombs out. If I start GBPVR, then enable remote desktop take-over, I get this when I try to view live TV.

I only get these errors when desktop take-over is enabled on the HTPC. When I disable desktop-takeover or close NetMeeting , it works like a champ.

Any thoughts?

I just found out about this great piece of software. Please bear with me for a while for an introduction and I hope you can help too.


I have used GotTV for quite some time, along with myHTPC. Then Meedio came and GotTV changed to GAM. Then problems started. GotTV plays ok if I start it stand-alone, but when started from within Meedio, I get no audio. I then tried GAM (GotTV successor) but this was even worse... program more frequently craches than works. I cannot even tune to any channel. Anyway... these problems made me look for other PVR solutions (this is where GBPVR comes).

Living in Greece with tvtv.gr dead (any takers?) I don't have a real interest for EPG (although yes it's interesting if the program implements it - I might be able to use it in the future) and I also have no interest in other functions or plug-ins (since for other functions I have Meedio or whatever) than playing live-TV (or timeshifted), recording tv and scheduling recordings. All these controllable with nice OSD, NOT looking like computer software (since I need it as part of my HTPC system). Also controlable with simple (better configurable! keystrokes that I may assign to my remote (but it's my problem I don't need the program to bother if I have a remote and what remote this is). Nothing else. THIS IS WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. It's simple.

To make things clear: Can GBPVR be a plain fullscreen PVR (directly in full screen, without messages or graphics) with on-screen controls (non-mouse driven, configurable key driven) for play/pause/rew/ff/exit that hide when I don't use them? No need for skins or whatever, except if the skin is what would make GBPVR "transparent" for me - integrated to my HTPC setup. Also EPG to be able to be disabled.

Can it do something that simple? How?

The very little time I "played" with the program, I was confused with the controls and I don't like the fact that when I start it, I have to go through the menu (I only have TV + a media module set in the path of the recorded videos + exit) and THEN it starts TV. Then I didn't know what to press for the TV and record and timeshift functions (I am still trying to find a clean keymap listing). Also everything is in text, which is not configurable (I would turn it to Greek but since I cannot even configure the font, even the media module I renamed showed as Chinese)... at least it could be icons (universal language) like oldie-GotTV... Last but not least, I am not using my Hauppauge remote (I have a PVR-350) since I am using a different RF remote, but I am not sure if the program can work without the Hauppage remote (do everything with keyboard commands - as I said better CONFIGURABLE).

So what do you think?

Some videos that are dvd rips converted to mpeg are zoomed in too big and get chopped off. How can this be fixed..Also is there a way to leave the list of videos instead of the thumbnails by default..

I have MCE 250 PVR and there are no channels showing up , what I am doing wrong ??

so far I have succesfully managed to implement the IInfoPanel interface, and can load an image to display on the main menu page using the renderpanel event, however, if I try to do any kind of drawing GBPVR fails to load.

A bit technical this one. When there are several recordings scheduled to follow on one after the other, it would be nice if GB-PVR did not attempt to change the channel for the next scheduled job when it is the same as the channel number for the current job.

i.e. If Job #1 is recording channel 402 from 18:00 to 19:00 and Job #2 also records channel 402 from 19:00 to 20:00, GB-PVR would not attempt to change the channel at the start of Job #2 - which is what happens now (even when they overlap)

Why? Well, if like me you have an NTL PACE cable box, controlled via a RedEye serial infrared "emulator" you will know that you have a 40% chance of the channel change failing because the cable box's processor is so underpowered that it misses one or more digits (this even happens with the supplied remote control) So, simply put, I like to reduce my risk factor

Also, when you have consecutive programs that run ahead of schedule (as seems to be habitually the case with the Sci-Fi channel) you end up with a 1 or 2 second black gap in the programming while the sloth-like PACE box actions the channel change request - and these muck up attempts to join the end of program 1 to the start of program 2 to get the first few minutes of the show.

Now that GB-PVR has a separate Tray Monitor app (which is much appreciated) would it be possible to add some additional control functions to the right-click context menu? The two I'm really thinking of are:

"Stop Current Recording" and "Record Now" The intention of the former is obvious,; the latter could popup a dialogue requesting a channel number and then start recording until manually stopped. Or maybe these could be buttons on the Status dialogue?

What I would love is to be able to control the system volume using the remote control regardless of where I am in GBPVR.

I wondered what the Mute and Full buttons are used for on the remote as these seems reasonable buttons to use (eithe 'Mute' for vol 'Down' and 'Full' for vol up or use 'Mute' to mute, 'Nameless button' for vol down and Full button for vol up). Could this be done.

I dont use those buttons, so I'm thinking of writing a program that will read the remote, use the Mute and Full buttons to control the volume and pass the others as key events to GBPVR.

But I wont if Sub is willing to build this into the main app.

What do people think?
