There were two episodes of a show on today, 6:00-6:30 and 6:30-7:00. I used the TV Guide to setup to record show 1 then show 2.

Since I use pre- and post-show minutes (my PC clock is not that accurate, nor are our local broadcasters very diligent about being on time!, I was not sure what to do about the post-show padding minues of show 1 and pre-show padding minutes of show 2. I ended up setting them both to 0 in the 'record' screen (I chose 'record' rather than 'quick record'.

On the disk, I ended up with two files for the two shows as expected. But the 'break point' was not between shows, which is not surprising given the timing issues.

So what's the best way to record two shows like this? Ideally, I'd prefer to end up with one file with two shows in it but I can't see how to do that from the guide. Of course I can use manual recording, but there are problems with that (separately reported here) not using the pre-, post-show padding minutes.

Just this past week, my brother and I saw the good deal for a PVR-250 from CompUSA ($79.99 after rebates) so we decided to pick one up.

Eventually we plan on making a dedicated MythTV Box, but for now we just want to use it under Win2K.

So, I found GB-PVR from http://www.byopvr.com and it looked like the best free software for Windows. I downloaded, and installed it and followed all the instructions from the Quick Start and the FAQ.

But I have a problem: my channels just show up as static in GB-PVR. If I use the "Tuning Assistant" program, about 15 channels will come in, but none of the rest (and I don't know what that program does anyway).

I installed the Hauppauge software first and that stuff can find the channels just fine. I even uninstalled all that and GB-PVR and reinstalled GB-PVR and it still doesn't work.

Can anyone give me any pointers at all?

sorry if this is already available in gbpvr, i couldnt find it. but sub could you add for more variable to the config file, xpos, ypos, width and height. so each time gbpvr runs it opens in the exact same position. (so perfectly fits my tv). or make it so in fullscreen position you can position the screen better. my tv has quite a bit of overscan.

giving up using the 350 tv out, until a stable driver is made. having sync problems and hangs to much.

if anyone knows how to do this (until next release or whenever sub adds it, giving that its not already available) can you tell me, either via free software or settings in win xp.

I just upgraded to 227 and tried to use the web interface and get "Server Error in '/gbpvr' Application". I'm sure someone has posted a solution to this, but the search wasn't very helpful. Any ideas?

I did a full uninstall of the previous version, rebooted and then installed 227.

I am writing this because over the past few months my frustration with the whole PVR concept has been growing, for one very simple reason: in NZ there are *no* reliable XML TV Programme sources. I don't know how many times I have had to find a new source, only to see it dry up, either ocasionally, or at the worst possible time (i.e. the programmes I want recorded are missed out). Programme naming is not consistent, so if the guide changes the spelling or something, then the programme doesn't get recorded... In short, for a PVR to work correctly, there *has* to be a 100% reliable source for the XML feed, otherwise forget it!

So for all of us unlucky sods that don't live in the US (lucky in many other respects though)... What I would like to suggest/request is the following: for you to modify the manual recording section to make it a lot more user friendly. Namely:

Programme Name (for ease of reference within the list of recordings, and for the mpg filenames)
When (e.g. every friday from 9:00 to 9:30 pm -- of course the standard pre and post padding applies)

Basically to do away completely with the XML guide side of things, and to have only manual recording capability.

I have had very limited success with the current manual recordings, mainly they don't repeat like I ask them to.

I don't know if this has been noticed before, but I just ran across a little bug in the manual recording setup. I set it to record from 07:00 to 09:00 and then went to the guide to set another recording for a show that starts at 09:00 (with zero padding on each end). It told me there was a conflict with the manual recording. I went back and checked it and it was set to end at 09:00:17. Hmmm... I tried it again and this time it ended at 09:00:56. Hmmm... Looks like the seconds are not being zero-ed out and that can cause conflicts. Probably an easy fix (famous last words :-).

Sorry if this is already a Known Problem...I just ran across it...

Would it be posible to include support for the Dscaler 5 decoders in a near future release. These give very nice PQ, people are raving about them on avsforum see this thread.

I have a small issue with the Fast Forward and Rewind, while watching live TV. Both functions act weird:
While doing either function the playback is very choppy and I cannot see the position of the current frame relative to live TV. Also if I leave the Rewind to go to begining of the recording (buffer of live tv) it goes back to the main menu. If I leave Fast Forward to continue on its own, the playback freezes when it reaches live tv (I think that's where it freezes, since I cannot see the current position).
Apart from these minor issues the app works great, and I even wrote a small app to retrieve Show times from several Cypriot channel web sites by parsing the HTML of their web sites. The output is in XMLTV so I can directly import them into GBPVR. Anyone leaving in Cyprus and is interested in this app I would be happy to give it to them.
