i am about to ditch my epia me6000/mythtv setup for an MVP/gbpvr setup. i have two questions:

1) will the commercial skipping functioanlity be available on the MVP interface?
the 0.22 changelog states:
- Now able to use comskip for automatic detection of commercials.....During playback you can press "0" followed by the skip forward or back keys to move between the detected commercial break points.

2) has anyone tried adding the MVP spdif port and feeding gbpvr output to a receiver with digital inputs?

i just had another thought, it would be cool if you could group channels by genre (like skytv.co.nz does on their website) like general entertainment, sport channels, music, family etc.

could put another rectangle down the side of the tv guide, with the genre title down the side (horizontally, txt 90 degrees not just one letter after another downwards).

could use the color buttons on the remote to jump to a genre (i think they're already in use thou)

just thought it would be a cool idea, dont expect it to be included any time soon, just a cool idea.

Using the MPV, I seem to be having trouble using the skip feature. I have the default skip set to 30 seconds, but it won't skip. I can't type in the number of seconds and hit the skip button, either. (commercial breaks are LONG in the USA!


This worked like a champ for me in the previous version. Also, the OSD comes on, and I can see the numbers I type if I type xx seconds to skip with the MPV remote, so I know the signal is getting to GBPVR.

Anyone else see this?

It would be good if when recording a programme, GBPVR also either created an associated INI file, or if possible meta data within the MPEG file. If there is interest I'm happy to research what existing standards might be around.

As I understand it the Programme details are currently only stored in the database. Should anything happen, such as moving the programme files, changing the capture card etc, then all associated data is lost.

In the future a feature may be to import recording's from another drive/system etc in which case this information could be used to populate the data. It may even flow over to the video library?

Its one of those things that has only a few uses immediately, but it its not there then it can't be used for future development.

I just got an IR200L IR blaster. I'm having one problem, though. I trained it just fine for my Pioneer cable box, it is changing the channels (with either the keyboard or my MPV). Problem is _both_ the internal tuner and the cable box are changed. (the internal tuner on the PVR250 should stay on channel 3).

Is there something I'm missing?

- Horizontal/Vertical zoom and offset settings in config.xml now work when playing video with VMR7/VMR9/Overlay.
- Now has option to wake machine to perfrom EPG update.
- Fixed a bug that would sometimes stop you from deleting a capture source.
- You can now change the duration in seconds of skip button. The default is currently 60 seconds.
- You can now configure GB-PVR to perform manual skips in seconds or minutes depending on your preference.
- Now showing current time in TV Guide. This is configurable in the skin files. See blue skin for example of how to turn it on.
- Added "stop" button to net radio screen.
- More button lists now wrap around making for easier/quicker navigation.
- Improvements to multi-tuner conflicts. This also includes better tuner conflict management with live tv tuner usage, and changing allocated tuners if necessary. This also resolves an issue that could lead to recordings not taking place.
- When watching live tv, you can now push the yellow button to return to the previous channel you were viewing.
- Now able to use comskip for automatic detection of commercials. If comskip is found in the gbpvr directory, it is automatically run at the end of each recording to detect commercials (at low priority). Comskip is separate third party application available for free download from http://forums.freytechnologies.com/forums....d=1251. During playback you can press "0" followed by the skip forward or back keys to move between the detected commercial break points. After downloading comskip and placing it in your gbpvr directory, you'll need to edit the comskip.ini and enter the correct 'frames per seconds' etc depending on your location in the world.
- Plugin developers can now use the PluginHelper.ShowMessage() method to display on-screen messages. Plugins could be developed for CallerID etc. Its a little ugly looking on the screen at the moment, but it works.
- The Recording Service has been altered to be able to record files shows with multi-byte character sets (tested on hebrew). Previously it would create the directory, but fail to create the video file.
- Minor changes to Direct Recording Source / GO7007SB / Tuning Assistant to correctly cope with localized naming conventions used in some parts of the world.
- Added a couple of tweaks to the MVP FF/RW functionality. This should resolve an issue that would cause GBV-PVR to return to the main menu during fast-forwarding on the MVP.
- Now automatically handling daylight savings for zap2it users. I've removed the timezone setting in the config app. GB-PVR is now using the windows timezone settings.
- Added a Scart RGB option to the XCard settings.
- Fixed a really annoying bug that would sometimes cause scheduled recordings not to record after viewing live tv.
- Its now also possible showing Close Caption information for the regular Intervideo mpeg decoder. Previously this only worked for the NonCSS version.
- Improved tab order in config app.
- New GBPVRTray.exe which can be used to give you visibility of what your capture devices are doing. This replaces the tray icon that was part of the recording service in the last release. Also enables you to easily restart the recording service.

I just today brought a usb pvr2 and already have a pvr 250 (rev16 chip) but for the life off me I cannot get both to work in gbpvr. I have set up the usb pvr2 as capture device 1 and the pvr250 as capture device 2. The usb pvr2 works but the pvr 250 gets failed to communicate error you can schedule a recording and both devices seem to be recording but only the usb pvr 2 records anything. Am I missing something obvious?

Is there a device that with one button turns on the TV and the PVR system? I know I could use an IR blast but I don't want the extra wires wrapping in front of the TV. I was wondering if there is a device that will turn on and off the unit when the TV turns on and off maybe detecting the surge in power which will turn on the PVR. I know that with some remotes you can use a sequence but if the remote is pointed away you could miss the device.

I have seen a tutorial on powering up other units when the computer goes on but this is a little different. I need it to be easy for the wife to use and using multiple buttons could be a problem. Is this someting Girder software could help with?

Are there any suggestions or tutorials to make something, I am not even sure what my Google search would be.

Has there been any talk of DVB support by anyone? I did a search and it seems no one has mentioned it, people are screaming for it ont he SS and Frey forums. I haven't actually purchased a card yet, I'm thinking about the Hauppauge Nexus.

I went off on a business trip Sunday, returned today (Thu) to see if my new found wonder (GB-PVR) was able to record the shows I'd programmed.  

Well, the good news is, all the shows recorded - 14 in all.  The bad news is, the start/stop time of the FIRST show in the series did not follow the '3 minutes pre-show' and the '3 minutes post-show' that I programmed.  BUT ... all the other shows in the sequence did.  

Here's what I setup:
I'm using my cable box to tune so simply used 'manual record' to record the shows.  The 30 minute shows I wanted are on at 9am, 10am, 11:30am, and 6pm, all on the same channel.  
Entered a start time of 9:00am, end time 9:30am. Chose 'all episodes in this timeslot'.  Then setup another recording, entered a start time of 10am, end time 10:30am ... and so on.  

When I reviewed the shows, all the shows for the first day were 'exactly' 30 minutes long, while all the shows from the second, third, and fourth days were 36 minutes long.  

When I go to the 'recording' menu, all the shows are listed with the 30 minute duration (that is, they all say similar to 9:00am-9:30am).  When I double-click the first entry, it says similar to 'start time: ...09:00:06 AM ... end time: ...09:30:06 AM.  The second entry says 'start time: ...10:00:25 AM ... end time: ...10:30:25 AM.  And so on.  (These entries conrrespond to the first occurrence of each show).

When I go to the 'second occurrence' of the 9:00 am timeslot show, it still says   'start time: ...09:00:06 AM ... end time: ...09:30:06 AM'.  And the second occurrence of the 10am timeslot show still says 'start time: ...10:00:25 AM ... end time: ...10:30:25 AM'.  But when I click 'play', the duration on the first shows is 00:30:02, but the second occurrences are all 00:36:04.

The actual file sizes also confirm the duration differences.

So in summary - the main 'Recordings' screen reflect the 'nominal' (30 min) durations, and the second screen (when you double-click on an entry) also reflects the nominal 30 min duration, but the actual player screen (the overlay that appears when you move the mouse) reflects the actual duration.
