first of all, many kudo's to sub for bringing this piece of software.
I just received my MVP. I have been fiddling with PVR software for quite some time, but I like GB-PVR the most, certainly because its MVP support.
I got my MVP yesterday and hooked it up. The setup is:
ASUS Pundit-R Barebone with Celeron CPU, 1 Gb RAM and Maxtor 6Y120P0 HD. One PVR-350 installed, standard onboard NIC (3COM 920B) running on 100 Mbit, connected to another 100 Mbit switch.
I run GBPVR version 0.21.4. When using the MVP, the menu's run a little behind (Can live with it), but I cannot skip commercials without hanging the MVP. I have to restart it and start over.
Any ideas why the skip doesn't work ?
I also read about a function to skip a couple of seconds by using the keys, but I haven't figured that out yet.

Does GBPVR support direct VOB playback e.g. I have ripped my DVD I use VOB merge to combind all the VOB's into one file on the hard drive can I play this file through the Videos section? I know that PowerDVD can playback VOB files so I would think I could do this.
I'm testing out GB-PVR with my Hauppauge PVR USB2. It can detect channels with the channel detector program, but it can't actually do anything with them! When I hit record all I get are 0kb files, and when I say Live TV it says it can't open the file...
I have been fooling around with different versions of the Media MVP software, some hacks and whatnot and there never seems to be an end to the oddball problems with out-of-nowhere reboots, movie stops, etc. I run this on a prescott 3.2 clocked around 3.6 on an new Asus mobo.
I must say, it took about 1 minute to config, 1 minute to be sure the vid was going through and about 1 minute to have a sample recording waiting for me to view on my Media MVP. Not to mention, I capture it on a Plextor Convertex M402U which is terribly hard to find compatible software for. At least a good PVR anyway.
Nice job indeed. No problems whatsoever. I am having a hard time breaking it. With that said, my hat is off to you for producing such an impressive innovation!
Oh and GBPVR dudes, please oh please, go ahead and have a transcoded Divx option. We just do not care how much CPU load it is because those of us who are stupid enough to be into this mess have machines that will eat it for lunch. Go ahead, transcode it, we will figure out how to crunch it and optimize it. Just include a process priorty for the transcoder if you do. It helps. It is certainly worth getting the Divx folks on the phone (they are very open) and working something out. They will be sure to market the relationship and help push this product to the stars. There is just no getting around their high quality codec trying to standardize the horribly non-standard MPEG4 community which are slitting each others throats for domminance. Get it together now before X-box hybrids bury us. Just ask Netscape. You don't have a whole lot of time.
Several of the channels I watch such as UKTV Drama do not broadcast 24hours a day
when the tv guide is displayed the sections for these stations seems to be left blank when they are not broadcasting, which can be confusing when you are scrolling through the listings using the arrow keys. Would it be possible to have something inserted into these blanks perhaps with text similar to "No Service Details available" as the description so that there are no gaps in the schedules
Its not particularily important but it bugs me like html tables which have empty cells in them, it just looks odd seeing the background image through parts of the tv schedule
I have been playing around with GBPVR over the past weekend and really think this is the best free PVR app to date. I do have two questions:
1. I currently use gbpvr on my radeon tv-out when using software decoding or with the pvr350 tv-out (haven't settled for either option) when using the hardware decoder. Is there a way to still be able to use the PVR350 remote when GBPVR is no longer the active app. (e.g. when I am programming and my GF is watching TV, can she still use the remote - currently I can't seem to get it to work).
2. I see there is a mvp client, but that doesn't support 5.1 audio unless you hardware hack the MVP. Is there also a PC client in the works, so I can use a second pc as a client and do get 5.1? (I asked this question before, but got no response)

A couple of observations about the current version of GB-PVR (02.14)

When using bleb.org as the source for listings, I've noticed that the program guide has problems showing the grid past the end of scheduled programming. i.e. If a channel stops broadcasting at midnight, then the guide will show the last program extended from midnight all the way up to the start of programming the following day. I have also found it very difficult to highlight programs in the guide for that channel following the extended entry; in some cases finding it impossible.
It's not a major issue; I used bleb for a while because XMLTV stopped working, but now the new version of XMLTV is available I have switched back to that.

When choosing to record all episodes of a show, I frequently see the MVP server restarted about ten seconds after selecting "Record". I'm assuming that this is a timeout error, possibly caused by the MVP server process going unresponsive while it processes the TV listings looking for shows to record. When the server restarts and I examine the recording schedule, all of the shows are in there.
These are both minor issues. The program guide is a million times better than the abysmal guide that I get from my ntl digital cable box!

relevant system specs:
ABIT IC7-MAX3 board, realmagic xcard, windows xp, a number of different media playback programs, mainly common popular ones.
this is the story. GB-PVR plays only some of my mp3's, and some it does not. Orriginally I thought this might be a problem with gb-pvr and the xcard sound out (all sound from gb-pvr goes through my xcard and to my amp). But, I realised the problem was bigger when I tried other programs. The xcard xmedia software also has problems. The same files that don't play in gb-pvr don't play in xmedia. Xmedia also sends sound through it's digital jack to the amp.
But then, I open up a problem file in Power DVD, which plays sound to the m/board analogue jack, which is plugged to another sound system. Powere DVD, which does nothing with the xcard, also could not play the song.
Zoomplayer (a really good media player), also can not play the problem files, and it sends sound to the mother board jack.
Media Player and itunes have no problem with any of the songs. Both output to the motherboard jack.
BUT, then I played around a bit. Xmedia (xcard), and Zoom Player (m/board) and Power DVD (m/board), all start playing the song if I move the slider bar. Once I move the slider bar, I can then return to the start of the song, and it plays all the way, until it gets to the next problem song. All my mp3's have been ripped with lame, and the program cdex. Now, from a single album, out of 10 songs, all ripped from same cd, with same program, at the same time, five play no problems in all mentioned programs above, but 5 don't.
Also, once the slider has been moved, each respective software plays to the correct sound device (i.e. xcard/mboard).
Funny, MP and iTunes no probs at all. GB-PVR, PowerDVD, Zoomplayer and Xmedia, of which two play to the xcard, and two to the mboard, all have problems until the slider bar is moved.
Then, I re-encoded one album which was giving me problems (50 % played only) through razorlame 1.1.5.1342. Using the same encoder as they were orriginally done in, at the same quality settings, just a different lame frontend, they now all playback in all programs, GB-PVR included, does not matter if the sound is going to xcard, or mboard.
To confuse you even more, I had no such problems on a previous operating system, on a different m/board (asus p4c800 deluxe). All files played back everywhere. I don't think this problem is related to the board though.
What could it be??? Please help me problem solve this, because I can't afford to re-encode all 10000+ songs I have because of this.
Please ask for any info you may need, and if you want me to send you two mp3's from the same artist/album/rip one working and one not, I am happy to.
