  Capture board
Posted by: web_maven - 2004-09-07, 03:48 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (10)

Here are the TV Cards that are on my list.

AVerMedia 550
Hauppauge PVR250 MCE
PVR2000

The first two are my top choices. The AVerMedia 550 costs about $110 the PVR250 is about $99 the PVR2000 is about $150. All have the built-in Radio which I like.

I am still waiting on additional info on the AVerMedia 550 Chip but the thing I like is the V-Sharp technology for video capturing. I don't see this for the PVR250 and PVR2000.

The Hauppauge PVR250 is tried and true people say it has good capture quality and it will work. I was thing about the PVR350 but it’s pricey and sounds like it’s buggy. If someone could give me a compelling argument about quality I will thing about the PVR350

The PVR2000 is at the top of my price range some comments on this board say it's very good but I don't know anything about it.

I am looking for quality recording with the radio feature at a good price.

Please try to be specific with your comments.

A bit about the system I am putting together:
Motherboard: EPIA M9000
HD: 40Gb 7200
RAM:256MB
CD: 4x DVD+/- RW
Remote: Niveus Media PC Remote.
Case: Custom case made from an old VCR
The Via EPIA M9000 has Composite and Svideo out - 5.1 audio out with an on board MPEG 2 decoder.

Any Suggestions?
Raymond

MVP Reboots and Hangs When Idle for Too Long
Posted by: bfrankin - 2004-09-07, 03:26 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (1)

Just purchased and set up the system this weekend, software is great!  Excellent job!

The problem I am having is that if I leave the MVP on OR in "Suspend Mode" (after hitting power button on MVP remote) for 1-3 hours or more it either reboots itself or hangs.  Sometimes it is just a black screen, sometimes it is the "Loading Application" screen.  Anyone else have this problem?

Here is my setup:

- WinTV-PVR 250 on the PC
- MediaMVP connected to the TV
- Latest release of GBPVR (as of Sep 5, 2004)

When I run the latest Beta for MVP everything works fine, but when I switch to the GBPVR server then I experience the problems above on the MVP.

It seems as though the Hauppauge server software communicates with the MVP randomly to keep it up and running, but GBPVR does not.

Anyway, any suggestions?  Thanks!

  "scrambled" video?!
Posted by: profjoe - 2004-09-07, 02:29 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

I may be crazy, but I am almost sure that I read someone else having this problem recently, but 2 hours of looking in various forums gives me no joy.

My new wintv 250 works just fine with the (not so nice) wintv 2000 software, but I get "scrambled" looking video from gbpvr, sage, and btv. Audio is fine on all counts.

What stupid thing am I doing wrong?

  changing name of recording quality
Posted by: tkgafs - 2004-09-07, 12:17 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

hello,

despite having only really downloaded gbpvr for the jukebox plugin, which I love by the way.

I have now got a pvr350 and an mvp and my first recording was a great success (i have even edited the commercials out!!Wink thanks sub for all your work and patience with all the questions you get from us all.

But my latest question Is it possible to either rename the recording quality settings or add new ones in addition to custom1 and custom2

I'd like to be able to have settings called vcd, svcd, dvd, dvd long etc etc

I had a look in congig.xml and the database but couldn't see anything obvious

thanks again

  Noob questions
Posted by: tweek - 2004-09-06, 09:56 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

I've just bought a PVR 350 card and I've just got a few questions about using GBPVR with it.

1) Can you get the GUI output aswell as the mpeg 2 output through the TV-out of the 350 card with GBPVR?

2) How can you adjust the quality settings of "Quick Record"?

3) How can you change the order in which the channels come up in the TV listings window?

Thanks in advance to anyone helping!

Tweek (very new to PVR!Wink

  Minor tweaks
Posted by: stu8080 - 2004-09-06, 09:28 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I think most of the best ideas have been suggested so far, and the incompatible or infeasable discounted, but not being a programmer i dont know whats possible... so if i throw a few wants in to the ring id like to hear what people think:

the easiest request is to have the 'video library' to display just like the 'recordings' screen - horizontal bars instead of tiles?
Can i adjust this easily?

My biggest want (and ive no doubt the most complex by far!Wink is the TiVo like automated recording system that records things it thinks you might like. What are the main constraints preventing this?

I like to use Winamp and the 'Milkdrop' visualisation, is there a way of allowing similair style visualisations to be used through with the jukebox plugin? And could they be output through the PVR-350 TV-out?

Can the forums be made searchable? i know ive repeated questions others have asked and had answered!

  Media MVP Won't Load! Help!
Posted by: tellyaddict - 2004-09-06, 07:51 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Sorry if I'm being a bit dim here, but how do I get GB-PVR MediaMVP Server to work?

I have WindowsXP + SP2, Microsoft Net 1.1, Hauppauge MediaMVP version 2.2.22229 (although, incidentally(?), MediaMVPStart.exe identifies itself as v.2.2.22170.0...hmmm) and GB-PVR version 0205. I have no analogue TV/Capture cards, only a HP Nova-t and a Nebula DigiTv (can't wait for DVB, sub!!Wink

The Hauppauge software works as intended through my MediaMVP, and I can view and (thoroughly) enjoy GB-PVR on my PC.

If I understand correctly, the procedure for operating the GB-PVR MediaMVP Server is:
1. Verify that the HP server is connecting properly.
2. Run Hauppauge Media MVP/Hardware/stop.bat to suspend the server.
3. Run GB-PVR Media MVP Server.

The problem is that I am failing to stop the Hauppauge server. After (2), all I get on my tv is the Hauppauge boot screen with the message "failed to contact GUI Server", and (if I start the GB-PVR server) the message box "This process acts as a server.......etc" on the PC.

Windows Firewall has been configured to allow both HP Media MVP and GB-PVR as "exceptions". I have also tried with the firewall disabled, to no avail.

The silly thing is that I have successfully operated GB-PVR via the MediaMVP before upgrading WinXP using previous HP and GB-PVR versions. I'm being dumb - please help! TIA.

Live TV on PC but not on MVP
Posted by: mbeechwood - 2004-09-06, 07:41 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (16)

Dont know whats happened, but i've had live tv working fine on both tv and mvp, but now its suddenly stopped working on the mvp. if i go into live tv on the mvp i get the mini guide for a few seconds with the buffer indicator staying on 0% , and then it jumps back to the main menu, although a livetv-1.mpg buffer file is created. Equally oddly if i do this on the pc i can pause tv ok, but i cant find any livetv.mpg buffer file.

really confused!!

  Changing some of the texts
Posted by: mjp - 2004-09-06, 07:31 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi,

I would like to change the popup text that you get when trying to watch live TV when something is recording.

At the moment it says no capture source is available, is it possible to change this ?(I would like to change it, to something wife friendly like 'You are currently recording a program, to watch this, go to pending recordings and select play'Wink

Any help most appreciated.

Cheers

Mark

BTW would make a useful feature, that when something is recording, allow live TV to 'Jump' To the recordings.
