I have recorded a movie in HD through my fusion software (720P 60 f/s). It is mpeg2, it plays fine in Fusion with about 20% CPU usage. It also plays fine with Cyberlink PowerDVD with similar CPU usage. When I play it inside GBPVR CPU runs at 100% and I get stutter every now and then. WMP plays it with 100 % CPU usage too.

I am using Cyberlink for all my video and audio playback. I am just wondering why such a huge difference in CPU usage given that I am using the same player? Thanks

I dont know, all I can suggest is trying different decoder. As can be seen from your comment about 'WMP plays it with 100 % CPU usage too', GB-PVR just relies on the components already installed on the machine to the video playback. You can suggest a different video decoder, but thats about the only control I have. I think the Zulu one coped quite well.

It might also be worth testing overlay instead of VMR, as some video cards cope much better with overlay..

I thought the DVICO software used a hardware-assisted video decoder(if you had appropriate hardware) which could explain the differences.

I am actually using HW overlay, it is the only thing that would keep correct aspect ratios. I tried VMR with Cyberlink, and the quality was worse (regular mpeg) and made no difference in terms of CPU usage. I have tried just about all decorder combinations, and it seems that my best option is Cyberlink with overlay.

From your reponse, it sounds like cyberlink is a suggestion, and then the system picks a certain decoder? May be resulting in similar scenario when I play the HD file in WMP. If that is the case then, is there a way to force WMP to use cyberlink decoder to play mpeg2 files? I tried associating .mpg extention with PoweDVD, but that did not change the situation.

I think I can use FFDSHOW to specify a decoder for mpeg2, but I would rather not do that.

GB-PVRs "suggestion" is usually honoured, but it is worth checking. If you have a look in gbpvr.exe-native.log, it lists the directshow components that were used for playback. Post it and I'll take a look.
