changing quality profile settings

When I try to change the quality profile setting from medium to high, it goes back to medium. I am able to change the medium bitrate and it stays but I'm curious as to why I'm not able to keep the high setting.
On another note, anyone familiar with the Sonic decoder:http://www.cineplayer.com/decoder/
I have some problems in the higher channel range I've not had with my old AIW card and nothings changed on the cable side except my new system and card.

The profile editting only affects the level (low, med, hi) quality, but does not mean it is gonna use that level for your recordings.
You need to specify the level of quality (low, med, hi) at the time you record.

This is one for the most frequently asked questions are here, and it did confuse me at the beginning.

When you edit a Profile (i.e. a level), it means you are changing what that profile means in terms of bitrate ...etc.

The dropdown list is only there to pick whcih profile you want to edit, and is not inteded to SELECT which profile is active.

There is no one active profile, since for each recording you select the profile you want to use when yo schedule the recording..

I guess sub needs to chane that drop list to something else (maybe another button that opens a profile editng window?) since most people think that a dropdown list is intended to SELECT which item is active at this time...

Thanks for the reply. It does make more sense now.
I really like this program. My quality is better than with Sage but honestly, I've had no problems with MMC by ATI in the past and am having to learn all over again with my Hauppauge 350.
I'll keep trying this out and if I continue to use it, send a few $$$ to the cause.
