I'm using composite input works great with satellite...ati 550 theatre
not using the program as a client...the signal goes through my vcr so I can edit home video from old sources. The vcr is not set on a channel but rather a line input and then output to the capture card. The signal is great from the satellite but when I pop in a tape , the picture is ok for 3 seconds then turns to fuzz.....must be the difference in the signal but both are running into the composite?...the only thing i can think of is the satellite has a digital signal and the vcr analog?

Thanks in advance

Maybe the macrovision is stopping it recording from a VCR?

It worked set up this way on Beyond tv and sage tv....however I like this program much better.....satillite then vcr then capture card....and the satellite signal makes it's way through. The bundled software with the ati
by cyberlink wont even let me record satellite signal...says its copywrite protected. lol Why would beyond and sage both work....thats what puzzles me

there are programs that stop macrovision maybe you should try one did you have funny looking blue faint lines when using sage tv

sorry just re read what you said
so when you record from sat to video you get this problem

sound like its trying to record from a tuner

if it was macrovision you normally get faint blue lines rather than fuzz well thats what i have found ages since i played with video stuff

just to confirm, the capture card connects to the VCR through composite, then the sat box connects to the composite input of the VCR? and you do everything through the VCR? OR do you have some kind of splitter on the composite input of your capture card? if you are doing that, and trying to send two signals through the same cable... well theres your problem (in my best impersonation of Adam from Mythbusters)

if not, is there a way that you can try to use the coax cable when recording from the VCR? I know its lower quality, but come on its a VCR :p

my father has had some problems recording to a VCR from the composite output of his DVR... he just switches the coax cable to an auxiliary VCR and that seems to work.

does the 550 have dual tuners? if it does then you can record two things at one time, but if it does not then you are limited to one recording at a time.

please let us know how you have everything hooked up, that would help a bit Smile

cheers

sat into vcr(composite in), vcr(composite out) into composite on the capture card.(vcr's usually dont have a better output) Sat comes through fine...any tape played..no pic(fuzzy)...using the setup to record peoples vhs tapes to dvd....I like recording music video off the sat...again had this working on sage through just the composite input

when you say fuzzy is there just white noise?
or a fuzzy bad picture?
maybe the card is switching to pal or to something else
i know its a long shot
seems strange that it starts out ok then goes bad thats what makes me think its trying to switch so turn off anything saying auto
