Thanks for posting the link to this article. My server hasn't gone into low power standby mode since I attached the USB beanbag for an MCE remote. Hopefully the registry entry mentioned will fix that. Before this recent problem, my server pc functioned exactly as you describe.

The server would be in a quiet standby state unless it was busy recording, running comskip or the client pc in the living room was playing a recorded show. I use all static ip's on my network and wake on lan settings on my network card just as this article describes.

If you have tons of time on your hands and want a true low-power server check out this http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/.

I'm surprised at some of the power ratings I'm hearing about from folks with their PVR boxes.

I recently upgrade my machine, but my previous machine:

Ath XP mobile 2500+
768MB SDRAM
ATI 9800pro 128
single samsung 300GB (7200RPM)
PVR150 (Analog)
Kworld 110 (HD)

was only taking 95W at idle and 134W under full load (full load being recording on both tuners, playing back a DVD and transcoding a TV show).

For folks with power consumption over 200W, are you running any kind of special processor (hot) or multiple hard drives?

Also for those looking to drop power consumption check out the 80plus power supply specification. http://www.80plus.org/

I added one to my GBPVR machine and it shaved about 14W off my power consumption under load.
