Quote:So how can i successfully migrate to the new database?
Every time i've tried, it's a disaster, requiring a clean install, which is getting tiresome.
You used to be able to use the ChangeDatabase utility, but I havnt tested it in over year. I provided this utility for people to upgrade at that time, and I actively supported for six months or so after I started strongly recommend people switch to the new SQLite database.

I'd say virtually all users are using are running SQLite now, so migration is no longer a item of focus for me. I wasnt going to continue to support and test that utility forever for the 3 or 4 people still using the Access database on the off chance they might one day migrate to SQLite. Sorry - well out of warranty on that one Smile

That said, I have seen a post in the last month where a user indicated they used ChangeDatabase successfully on the current release, so you might get lucky. If not, see my recommended fix at the bottom.

Quote:How about a release that only uses the newer?
All release in the last year will only setup new users for SQLite. These releases will however continue to use your old database primarily for those that insist on using other databases (a small handful that use bigger database servers like SQL Server etc, and the stragglers that wanted to stick with Access for one reason or another).

Quote:I'd be willing to do another clean install to get out of the problems.
If ChangeDatabase.exe doesnt work for you then the easiest fix to use SQLite is:

- uninstall
- delete the gbpvr directory (including GBPVR.MDB and config.xml)
- reinstall
- setup any capture sources and season recordings

This will give you a clean install running SQLite database. You can of course do an 'export recordings' prior to this process, then backup recordings-dump.xml, and an 'import recordings' at the end of the process, getting your recordings back.

i posted earlier today that the search is not working for me, and is the same as many other posts i've seen - where the search returns results, but not times, and when you double click on a tv show you don't get any time results. I see in this thread that people are suggesting that this may be related to the fact i'm still using the old db.

Q1 - is it confirmed, in general, that that's the issue?
Q2 - if that's the issue, how can i find out which database i'm using?
Q3 - is there a clean way to migrate from the old to new db? i've heard people have had all sorts of problems. i don't mind starting from a blank set of recordings, but i just don't want to have the server crap the bed on me so i can't record new ones.

finally - and this is a total side issue - my recording service popups up by default when i start my computer (great) but if i have to shut it down for some reason, how can i restart it without restarting the computer?

thanks guys (great product!)

Look in C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr and open config.xml with notepad. Search for the string "Database settings" and see if it says "gbpvr.mdb" or "gbpvr.db3". .mdb is access, db3 is sqllite.

I'm confused... how does it popup?

In the gbpvr tray icon, you have the option both to shutdown the recording sercvice, and to restart it.
I'm not always right

thanks stefan - will look into these things tonight. is this the generally accepted cause of this search problem, and is there a clean, fairly risk free way of switching databases? if the switch database exe works (even if it clears out all my recording info) i'm ok. I just dont' want my pvr to stop working and have to reinstall (or at least have a large risk of this)

cheers

These questions are answered in my post at the top of this page (even if it isnt what you wanted to hear Big Grin)
