Hi guys,

I've been using PVRX2 for a good few months now, and it's awesome - just what I've been looking for. I'm having a bit of a problem though, I've got a couple of .mkv files which play fine through VLC, but when I try and play them through PVRX2, the screen goes black for a moment then dumps me back into the menu.
I've got nvidia's PureVideo Decoder, and ffdshow both installed, but I don't know if that's what I need or how to tell PVRX2 how/when to use them! Playback of live tv, xvid and vob (dvdr) stuff all works perfectly.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks!

When it comes to mkv files, PVRX2 just askes directshow to play then, which uses whatever the system default decoders for that type of file. You'll probably find your have the same problem in any other directshow based player.

You can determine what are the system default decoders etc by downloading GraphEdit and selecting the 'render media file' menu option, then selecting one of your file. This is exactly what GB-PVR is doing behind the scenes. Once you know what components are used by Windows for playing these files, then you can try to work out whether you need to add componets or remove badly behaved ones.

You may find you need to install the haali splitter or something similar.

Wow that was a fast reply...it must be like 7am there?!

I tried GraphEdit, and it just brings back the message "Could not construct a graph from this file. Cannot playback the file. The format is not supported (Return Code: 0x80040265). I guess that means I broke something :x
