Playing CDs

Got my MVP delivered yesterday, had GB-PVR up & running in a few minutes! :-)
Couple of questions,

Is there any way of playing CDs? (ie sticking a disc in the drive and playing it via MVP/GB-PVR).

There is a black strip at the bottom off the screen (about 1/6th of the screen height). Tried the MVP Screen Position plugin but I still can't get the GUI to move onto the black strip. Video playback is OK and uses the full screen.

Is DVD playback ever likely to supported via the MVP?

Sorry, there is no DVD or CD playback functionality available for the MVP. (and unlikely to be in the future).

There was a plugin (xdvd?) that tries to provide simple DVD movie playback on the MVP (no menus etc), but I'm not sure how well it works.

I'm working on something that may make DVDs much easier on the DVD. Stay tuned (in the ZTools section)

With MVPScreenPosition there are a couple of things I would do if you haven't already. First find out your MVP Mac address, and manually edit the config.xml to create an entry specific to your MVP. Make width 720 height 480 (PAL = 576) x-offset and y-offset =0... then check out the plugin.

If you still can't get the screen position moved just right, you might need to temp install the Hauppauge software and set the MVP to use 16x9, regardless of what your TV really is! (I've found that you can do much more screen positioning with 16x9 setting even on a 4x3 TV (actually you probably won't need to worry about adjusting the screen postion if you have a 16x9 screen!))

When you do set the screen size, make sure you still see most of the yellow...


Later on, when the position is set, you may want to try ZProcess and set the 'Lock to MVPScreen position' option. Works a treat...

ZProcess will also be involved in getting you DVD.

I never thought about doing this for a music CD, but I don't see why not...
