Hi all,
I've been running GB-PVR 1.4.7 for several months and all was well until about a week and a half ago, when it suddenly stopped working.

The symptom is that when I get the the main screen and hit OK on "Video Library", the MVP thinks for 15-30 seconds, then reboots back to the blue connecting servers screen. This happens over and over, and with both of the two MVP boxes on my network.

Some of the time, if I reboot the server system, the MVP will be able to play a few videos before it starts rebooting, but not always.

Attached is a zip of the contents of the logs directory (with debug logging), I shut down GBPVR and the recording service, cleared the logs directory, started it back up (about 6:40am in these logs), tried a few times to watch a video on the MVP (first time was about 6:42a), then zipped up the logs directory.

The only thing I see in the logs are messages like this, but I'm not sure if they are the issue or not (nor how to fix them if they are the issue).
2011-01-07 06:42:18.072 ERROR [6] Unable to find requested skin image: _TaskImages\Video Library.png

I've done "sfc /scannow", chkdsk /f, reinstalled 1.4.7 a few times and I've run the reregister controls script, nothing seems to change the pattern.

I can't really think of anything else to try....

Help, nothing pierces the brain like a 3 year old that wants to watch DORA! DORA NOW! Smile

(should I be trying the beta npvr? I've been leery, as this setup really needs to "just work" so that my wife and kids can use it).

Setup details:
I only use GB-PVR for playing video on my MVPs, I don't do any recording with it.
Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, with SP2
Core2 Quad dell with 3gb PC-6400 ram
I've been using the 4/05/2007 dongle for quite awhile, that's what I was using
when the problem started, since then, I've also tried the dongle
from Hauppauge v34.25345, no change in behavior.

I am not planning to respond to anymore GBPVR and MVP questions but you went to such effort to make a good post that I feel guilty. I'd start by installing the mvpmc dongle, it does help with random disconnects.

Based on your requirements you should definitely move to NPVR . If you still have problems with mvpmc and NPVR I will help you out further

Of course, the sooner all MVP users move to a new client the better.

Martin.

Thanks Martin, I hadn't realized that GB-PVR had "reached that stage" yet, but I will evaluate NPVR and see about moving to it. I don't *think* I have to do anything with mvpmc, do I? the website I found for that seemed fairly old, maybe that's encapsulated within NPVR now?

In any event, only time will tell, but I **may** have solved the immediate issue, I noticed that doing "dir t:\" on my server machine took over 20 seconds just to start, but from my normal desktop, the response was sub-second (T:\ is the common mount point for my NAS where all the videos are stored). I couldn't trace it down to anything, so I uninstalled Norton System Security, rebooted, and *poof*, the directory command had sub-second response time from the server also. I had previously added exclusions for all the video folders, but for some reason Norton chose to ignore them...

Anyway, just in case someone else hits a similar problem, trying temporarily uninstalling your AV (whatever it is) to see if that's the answer (it helps a lot more often than it should).

The latest version of mvpmc with emulation mode was released last month http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...-downloads
