That's for Windows so you have to figure on $300-400+ a client

You have to decide how much you are willing to spend to not have to switch the TV input. In some settings, it might be worth it. Wink
HTPC: Optiplex 7010, HDHR Prime/Avermedia Duet A188, NPVR 4.2.5, Win10 Pro

Not looking for impossible, I have been researching this for a little while, but it is kind of like going to the Chinese Restaurant at the mall. Everything has chicken (ability to play media) in it but all the meals have different options rice, noodles, that little ear of crappy corn.

It is hard to explain but I really do not want to get a TIVO or a cable box from the cable company. I just tried TVersity but that does not display live tv.

I just want some chicken fried rice, and do not want to pay extra for the crappy corn which I will not eat.

So the options I have for live tv would be:

1. Windows Media Center with $160 Xbox 360's as extenders.
2. NextPVR with NMT as clients.
3. XBMC with $300 mini computers as clients

Are there anymore?

Again thank you for all your help just looking to make decision without breaking the bank experimenting with all the different combinations that other's have already tried..

#2 doesn't give you Netflix, $300 for #3 is optimistic, and you are missing other options I already gave you.

Good luck.

It seems as if you are getting upset with me, I am just trying to figure all this stuff out, there are alot of options and variations not only in hardware but also in software. As far as I can tell a person would have to be very computer literate or just setup all the different combinations until they find one they like.

I have re-read the posts, I still can not find the other options you are referring to: maybe I just don't understand it.

No you are asking good questions, the trouble is there is no good solution that isn't a full blown current Windows PC

Other solutions with Netflix/Hulu and NextPVR LiveTV but performance is very model specific

Android - Netflix APP XBMC live TV improving
LG BluRay and SmartTV - pending fred250's app
Samsung BluRay and SmartTV - pending reven's app

This looks great, but is it an "and" or an "or" for bluray and/or smarttv. The Samsung BD-E5900 is going for around $60. I tried to read the Samsung forum about this but it was way over my head. The first post was filled with code. It appears to be up and running in beta, but still a few months out

Did not find much information on the LG BluRay

I do not know if you have an answer but if I go the WMC - Xbox 360 direction it appears I would have to pay about $10 per month per Xbox to have an internet connection. Is that true? Do I need an internet connection?
