The Danish shops only deliver to Denmark, so with the extra shipping fees I think I can get one cheaper here, or at least with less hassle. But I'll keep that in mind =)

SCART is just a 'plug' and not a signal (btw: scart stands for "Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs" which traanslates to "Syndicate of Radio and TV manufacturer").

the 22 pin scart plug supports
- composite signals (FBAS/CVBS)
- RGB (but not other component signals like e.g. YUV)
- s-video (there are some tvs which do not support this)

RGB would get you the best quality followed by s-video, which is slightly better than composite (because the color- and brightness-data is transmitted on seperated lines in an s-video cable).

I got the part number 25-3215, and I'm already writing my friend to get him down to Radio Shack and find out how many he can bring (I've pushed the GBPVR concept here in my company, so there are a lot of potential customers for any surplus when I have put one in every room in my own house, which is possible at that price).

Hope it works out for you. Let your friend know that if their local Radio Shack doesn't have them but there are some other stores in the region that do, they can pay for the MVPs at their local store and have them sent to the store for pick up later, at no additional cost. Local Radio Shacks won't let you ship to your house, even if you try to pay for it, but they'll send them to your local store for free.

I only say this because apparently not all clerks know this is an option. The first 2 I bought I had to drive about 40 miles one way to get them. Later when I decided I wanted another the clerk at the remote store (I called them) told me I could do this, and then explained over the phone to my local clerk how to ring up the order. I had to wait a couple days for it to get sent, but it saved me another long drive, and it might make it easier for your friend.

This leaves the question what is actually sent out on the scart.

From this thread I'm convinced the European signal is RGB, which is also consistent with the excellent picture quality.

So, new question to the S-Video version users: How is your signal quality on your MediaMVP's?

I think the general thought is (and I bought one based on this) is that the MVP s-video out is going to be as good as s-video from the very best agp video cards.

I am in Australia which also uses the PAL system and I bought a mediaMVP from the US. The pack is universal and just requires a travel adapter and because the output is switchable between NTSC and PAL that is not a problem.

I think the svideo output is great. It is far better than the svideo from my FX5200 graphics card and compares favourably with the component output from my xcard. If you are going to buy a big plasma then svideo may not be the best way to go, you should maybe look to be getting something with a component output. The bigger the screen and the closer you sit to it the more any deficiency in picture quality will show.

Hi Paul.

Thanks for the PAL confirmation and the big-screen heads up. I'm aware of the bigger screen/better signal equation, and I already own one European SCART-RGB version of the MVP. The other ones will be in secondary viewing areas (bedroom, kids room, office), so quality won't be too critical.

Brgds,
Niels
