I am considering moving from sagetv and am doing some research. I have come to enjoy some of the features. So I have a few questions about features.

1. Intelligent Recording: I have added several shows to my favorites list after watching an automagically recorded episode. Does gbpvr have a feature like this?

2. Conflict resolution: It is important to me to make sure that I can view any conflicts and deal with them. Also to have conflicts solved automatically by gbpvr. How effective is the conflict resolution?

3. Ability to record by genre or actor. This is a cool feature to which I have become accustomed. I love horror movies and old movies with particular stars. Does gbpvr have the ability to record in this manner?

thanks for the input

You can schedule season recordings and it'll automatically schedule each episode.

It will automatically deal with some types of conflicts. For other non resolved conflicts a screen is provided to decide what should be done.

No it doesnt do this, and no plans to add it in the future.

If you get your listings from zap2it?
I-xmltv (TVGuideSupercharger in my sig) will give you these features when using the X-Record plugin for scheduling.

Here’s a snip from the latest release post.
Jim_ Wrote:Another feature I’ve always wanted has been added, the ability to automatically record movies (or shows) depending on search criteria that I enter.
Yes I’m admittedly a 50’s scifi junky and I want to automatically record every 50’s scifi movie that hits my EPG! Big Grin
Using X-Record’s “RecordByDescriptionPartial” and I-xmltv’s “<ConditionalGenre>” feature allows you to add a “key word” to the description of listings that match your search results. The “key word” can be automatically searched and scheduled by X-Record.

Here’s an example from I-xmltv.ini that will add a “genre type” and a “key word” to the description of all Science fiction, Paranormal and Horror movies released from 1945 to 1970. To disable this feature simply remove the GenreName. Example: <GenreName></GenreName>
Code:
<ConditionalGenre-1>
    <GenreName>ClassicSciFi</GenreName>
    <NameInDescription>True</NameInDescription>
    <MovieOnly>True</MovieOnly>
    <FromYear>1945</FromYear>
    <UntilYear>1970</UntilYear>
    <IfGenre>Science Fiction</IfGenre>
    <IfGenre>Paranormal</IfGenre>
    <IfGenre>Horror</IfGenre>
    <IfGenre></IfGenre>
    <IfGenre></IfGenre>
  </ConditionalGenre-1>

Other features include, adding up to 20 favorite actors as genre types.

Well except for the intelligent recording feature it looks as though that covers it. Thanks for the input, I think I will test it out on one of my systems to see how it goes.

Thanks again

what do you mean by intelligent recording? does sage just record some random shows that it would think you to like, ala netflix recommendations?

I think the OP might mean something like originally TIVO had where if you accidentally record a gardening program it then fills your HD with gardening programs Big Grin

Sage can do it 2 ways, in a first, it actually records other shows based on your past viewings (ala Tivo). In a second mode, it merely suggests shows you might like in a "Recommended" menu screen.

I check it out every once and awhile, but hasn't gotten me on any new shows yet...

No it doesnt do this, and no plans to add it in the future.

CDK Scheduler, an external scheduling utility for GBPVR, has partial support for the Genre and Actor support in it's PriorityRecordings.xml file format. However, the scheduler itself doesn't support it as it would require linking to an external database like ZapDB or something that stored that information.

The code for CDK Scheduler is freely available so it could be extended to work with it if one chooses.

Note: You can also use I-XmlTV to add the information as Jim_ suggested. X-Records advance scheduler uses CDK Scheduler.
