I played around a bit more. I uninstalled all HDTV pump applications, so that I could do a clean install again.

However when I tried to play a .ts file it worked fine. Looking at graphEdit and the logs it is using the "Nvidia transport filter". This seems to work really well and there is none of the problems visibile that I reported in this thread regarding the HDTV pump filter.
