New MVP - network advice needed.

I've set up GBPVR so it can play my mp3 audio files and display my jpg pictures on the GBPVR client PC. I can navigate with the mouse or the Hppg remote, no bother.

I have a single MVP connected to the TV in another room. I can navigate on that, with the remote, to the parent audio and picture folders but that's as far as I can go. I can't see or play any of the mp3 or jpgs. Can anyone suggest how I can check network permissions? I remember seeing something on the forums/wiki about running everything on the same account but i have not been able to find it again despite searching for hours. Also how do you change the GBPVR process from running under SYSTEM?

You are right, it will be a network permissions thing. For folders, rt click the folder and choose Properties/Security and modify user access.

For Processes, rt click My Computer/Manage/Services. Rt click a service and choose Properties/Log On.

I'll try this tonight, but meanwhile I have a more general question:

If you are using a MediaMVP with just GBPVR on the server PC (i.e. no Hauppauge stuff running) What user account does the MVP start up as? How is this setup? Can you change it?

Yes you can change this user.

You have to change the user that teh GBPVRRecordingService is running as.
* Right-click on "My computer"
* Choose Manage
* Click on the plus-sign next to "Services and Applications"
* Click on services
* Right-click on GBPVRRecordingService
* Choose Properties
* Click on the "Log On"-tab
* Fill in desired account and password
* Click Apply and close
* Restart the GBPVRRecordingServce

Voila, now you are running under that users specific priviliges. You can acces Network Shares etc. like that user.

Remember though that you have to do the same every time you upgrade GBPVR.

I'm still testing, but it's looking good . Changing GBPVR to start logged on as my normal user account (rather than SYSTEM) appears to have unlocked all the mp3 and jpg folders on another network PC to the MVP.
