Hi, just wondering if anyone can help?

I am using the latest version 1.1.5 and running PVRX2

When I am playing ISO files and VOB directories from the hard drive PVRX2 often crashes. I have not experienced this problem playing any AVI's as yet.

I have PowerDVD V6 installed on the same box (installed it after the problem occured) and it played the same files without a problem. Tried PVRX2 after the install and it still crashed.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could make it crash or what I can check?

I am assuming someone is going to ask if it does the same in GBPVR? Good question, I dont know, will try it when I can get the wife off the TV.

Many thanks for any suggestions made.

nillan.

A couple of things that may help forum members diagnose your issue.

1. Details of the system you are using. ie. CPU, Graphics Card, Which decoders you are using. How much memory you have.
2. Please read the sticky "posting support questions" in at the top of the support forum,
there are log files which will help members pinpoint your specific issue. This sticky will instruct you how to upload these log files.

Zathras,

Systems is; Windows XP media center 2005, P4 3.2ghz, 1gb ram, Nvidia 6600 video card, and hauppage 1110 DVB-T card + remote. Updated with all of the latest patches including the .NET 1.1, 2.0 and media player 11 ones.

Not sure how to check for decoders. Installed is MainConceptReference, GPL MPEG Decoder, and PowerDVD so whatever they installed. Will read up on how to check this for sure - unless someone can post a quick idiots guide.

As an asside, I have all of the above installed on another PC, but this seems to work fine. i.e. I can play past the point of crashing on an image I have. I guess it would make sense to compare both configs, however again I am unsure on how to do this. Also this working machine has had all kinds of crud installed and un-installed so I cannot just copy the build :/

And will upload logs tomorrow.

Thanks

yea, logs will probably show why...do you use imon plugin? it crashes on dvd folder play..[can't lookup dvd vol. label of dir]
maybe a bug in utilities helper dll? maybe others are having same problem looking up info on them, cuz if it's a dir or iso, it crashes immediately..shouldn't be able to ask for vol label on a dir and iso label extraction is diffrnt....

here are the logs.

In answer to pBS, it does not crash immediatly, it plays the dvd then crashes part way through - but always at the same point.

Fortunatly I have one which crashes 30 seconds into play, hence I can test Smile

thanks

I cant see any sign of the crash in the logs. What does the message say when it happens?

The first thing I'd do is make sure you dont leave the DVD playback decoders set to 'system default' (on the DVD tab of the config app). This causes windows to pick some random decoder to play the DVD, which can cause problems for some people. If you have problems, its definitely worth explicitly selecting the decoders you're using - and try a couple of different combinations.

sub, thanks for the suggestions.

There was no error message, as it was freezing (suppose should have said that instead of crashing), and I had to use task manager to close the application.

I have tried playing the ISO under GBPVR instead of PVRX2 and it worked under GBPVR.

Then as you suggested, selected a specific decoder in the dvd config section (the cyberlink ones). This worked in both GBPVR and PVRX2.

So in the end it is resolved, and I have learned a small amout about dvd and avi playback on the PC Smile And a bit about the differences between GBPVR and PVRX2.

Many thanks for all responses, this is a good community for an excellent application.
