It'll handle either <unique-identifier>somevalue</unique-identifier> or <episode-num system="dd_progid">somevalue</episode-num>.

GB-PVR doesnt attempt to parse the field in anyway, and does care how long it is, or in what format it is, but it assumes that it uniquely identifies a show. The only special rule is that if the field is present and the last four digits are '0000', then its assumed the episode info is unknown.

If the field isnt present, all entries are treated as unique.

As I said <unique-identifier> doesn't follow the xmltv dtd (it's not in there) although certainly it's vaild xml.

I will work with the dd_progid. It's the one that has been around a while. If I asked you to change the code now, The Feature wouldn't be backward compatible (although I am done with 99.x for good...)

So this means that it's a valid num, and should be considered a unique episode <episode-num system="dd_progid">EP00852472.0001</episode-num>

and this would be a 'No Information available, nothing to make it unique' ep <episode-num system="dd_progid">SH00788602.0000</episode-num>

Aside from the 0000, and the length of text, do you need anything else?

EP = Episodic Series (think CSI, Lost, etc)
SH = Non Episodic recurring show (think News, "Paid Programming", morning workout shows, local programming like "Homes for sale in the viewing area", etc.)

The xmltv spec didnt include the <episode-num> tag in the early days, so <unique-identifier> was added at some stage. When <episode-num> came along, that was supported too, and the original stuff left in so as not break any existing xmltv files that depended on this.

I've just looked in the Programme table and there are some blanks for the Unique Identifier.

"SH" shows wouldn't have a unique identifier since they are not episodic. If they have any type of episode number, they would be "EP" by TMS standards.
