Now that I know how to skip forward, I'm looking for more playback functionality.
Is it possible to fast-forward i.e. make playback at 2x/4x speeds (like DVDs or good old VHS players do)?

Its not a feature I provide in PVRX2.exe. I used to try providing it in the past, but it worked like crap, since most directshow decoders cant do reverse play and cant do faster than 2x playback. With these limitations it didnt seem worth it.

The only current way to do this is with the Movie Wiz plugin (one other one might be able to too but I forget) and set it to open an external player that can do the real-time fast-forward such as PowerDVD. I know, not exactly what you're looking for.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

I'm disappointed.
My daughter keeps alt-tabbing away from gb-pvr and uses windows media player to view movies. I guess I'll need to set up the remote for that.

you have minute skip and short skip 10 sec
then if you want to jump even further you type in the number then ff and it jumps that amount of time
i find the fast forward 2x and 4x on power dvd a pain

PowerDVD up to 2x is great for watching things in, um, up to 2x speed. I watch a lot of stuff like that that would otherwise be too slow or boring but that I don't want to miss any of. Would probably need to use 4x or higher for a baseball game, Wink but the audio only works up to 2x.

KMplayer will do 3x but it doesn't always work and doesn't sound as clean in FF as PowerDVD. PowerDVD still holds the crown for watching things in up to 2x speed.
