I run in VMR9 FSE mode otherwise i get picture tearing.

This is normally fine with no problems but recently a couple of downloaded xvids would not playback properly. Sound was ok but the picture was flashing about 3-4 times/second. Switching playback to VMR9 custom stopped the flashing but the tearing problem came back.

I've got hundreds of xvids which play perfectly except for 2 or 3 that won't in fse.

Has anyone any ideas what the problem is or how to troubleshoot it?

that sounds like the tray app trying to show underneath the ui...
usually happened when Divx codec was used...
try going into it's preferences and turning off tray app..
or just use a different codec...like ffdshow...[handles many more formats too]
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow...081219.exe
hmm, looking at logs looks like you dont have a decoder for this type [it says 'avi decompressor'?] maybe vfw interface codec?
ffdshow should work much better than that one..
