Hi all, GBPVR is all new to me since stumbling across it yesterday. I've read tons about it in both the forums and the Wiki documentation and I got to say I'm impressed. Next step is to put it on my laptop and have a play in an effort to replace my current XBMC setup.

I'm looking at my options for setup and was wondering about device location. I intend eventually to set a server up in the loft where I'll run the satellite feeds to for capture. This will be connected to my existing wired network and NAS. And I will put a a Revo 9310 on the back of the LCD as a client.

Question I am looking for an answer to concerns my putting a Hauppauge HD PVR in the lounge. Primarily it will be for for capturing a HD feed off my PS3, but I would also be looking at hooking it up to the Virgin box as an additional source.

With the HD PVR physically connected to the Revo Client for capture, would the server be able to see the HD PVR across the ethernet, much like a shared device or am I barking up the wrong tree with my approach?

Also, how does/can GBPVR select/switch the source inputs on the HD PVR?

The fall back is to record manually using the TME software, but it sure would be nice to be able to hit the rec button on the remote and have GBPVR do it all for me.

Not a definitive answer, but until someone else pops up.....

The current version of gbpvr expects all the tuner sources to be physically connected to the server.

To select the different inputs of devices, you setup different sources in config, for the hdpvr ISTR they are component, s-video and composite. When you want to record something from the EPG it will pick the source device that has that show available.

For something like a Sky box, you could select composite and an IR blaster could change the Sky box channels.

there's no way to have client have it's own capture sources...lots of complications there..
so probably best route would be using the TME to record locallly...or if you can run a feed from ps3 up to capture source then it could stay on server...

the input will compete with any records due on that hardware, as i believe it can only do ane at a time,[svideo/composite/component] so it doesn't interrupt any recordings..
composite for manual capture usually is setup as it's own 'channel' so selecting it is just watching another channel..
[when using a stb, needs a channel changer, but not with manual caps]

you could just swap config.xml's [1 client setup, 1 server setup] and restart rec service to change modes..
[going from client to watch tv, and standalone to record ps3..]

Thanks Martin & pBS, I thought that it maybe a step too far.

I recall the threads talking about the lack of Client GBPVR access to local tuners, but thought that maybe the HDPVR device could be accessed by mapping through the network and client PC hardware, rather than a solution through the actual GBPVR Client Software.

Anyhoo, not a show stopper.

I think I understand what you are saying regards HD PVR input selection. I guess it will all become clear once I have it all hooked up and get some hands-on.
