Most of the TV programs that I record I only watch once and delete. Thirty minutes of video captured with GBVR on medium quality uses about 900mb on my hard drive. Thirty minutes with Wintv2000 at VCD compatible file (MPEG-1) uses only about 300mb. I have a Hauppauge PVR-150.

Is there any way to capture in MPEG-1/VCD through GBPVR? Other than this one area, GBPVR is way better than Wintv, IMHO.

Why don't you use a lower quality setting in GB-PVR: I think the 'Low Quality' setting in GB-PVR will produce will produce files of comparable sizes and quality to a VCD-MPEG1 file.

I realize this isn't what you were asking about, but if it is only a 30 min show, and you know you will be deleting it right after watching, why not record it in the highest quality? Or do you have huge backlog of shows to watch?
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

HenkH - For some reason, the default quality always reverts to Medium. I change it to Low, and when I go back, it's on Medium. However, I can change it to Low each time I record (which I do) and it uses about 700mb for 30 minutes, as opposed to 900mb at Medium. I can certainly live with it.

Pioneer - I do have a huge backlog. Actually, I just ordered my MVP and wanted to have a sizeable library when I hook it up. I'm hoping that having a good supply of sappy movies from the 50's will convince my wife that it's worth having another piece of electronics next to the TV.

Thanks for the replies.
