I have heard 2 conflicting sides to this story...can someone confirm if GBPVR can play divx and avi files or not?

If yes, will they play over the MVP?
Do I need any extra software/plugin (divx decoder...or whatever else)?

Thanks!

Yes, gbpvr does play avi/divx. If WMP will play it, gbpvr will.
I don't know about the MVP though...

Yes, there is simplistic support for divx/avi support on the MVP. You need to have the Hauppauge MVP software installed, as it reuses some of it's transcoding components.

I got my avi files to play through my MVP but I still have problems. I haven't used any extra plugins for this but I did install the hauppauge mvp software but turned the 2 mvp services to manual in the manage section of windows services.

My computer is a P4 2.0GHZ with 1 GB RAM. I got them to play by turning off the FFDshow with transcode option for the MVP playback section in the GB-PVR config program. I think I don't have enough computer horsepower to use FFDshow as the Hauppauge website says you need at least a 1.8Ghz computer for divx/avi play through the MVP. I also put the number of servers to autostart to "1" in this same section in the config program.

My avi videos are only 30 second clips from my digital camera. The problem I have is that they play back sped up. The audio is normal so what happens is that the video ends before the audio. The video just plays back too fast.

I've tried a few different codecs but they all seems the same. I saw someone else posted with the exact same problem but I don't know if they fixed their problem or not.

Does anyone else have this problem or have some suggestions for me?

I had / have this problem with a couple of avi files - in my case the problem was that the file itself was 24fps (as reported through explorer/file/properties), but it was being transcoded by the mainconcept encoder to 29fps (run the file, then use graphedit to open mvptranscode in the gbpvr directory).

After much @#$%ing about, I fixed it by disabling Xvid and FFDShow and forcing it to decode using the Divx codec.

I don't know if this will work for you (I'm convinced codecs have a mind of their own), but opening the mvptranscode file may be worth a look.

In retrospect, I think I recall reading somewhere that Hauppauge say you should use the Divx 'trial' codec - maybe this is why.

Incidentally, now I have forced it to use Divx rather than Xvid, I find that I can enable FFDShow and use it for resizing to 720x480 on the majority of files without introducing sync issues.

Hope this helps, or at least gives you another avenue to explore.

I'm trying to get the Divx codec to work but can't seem to get it. I'll include some links since it took me some time to find these.

I downloaded the codec v5.2.1.
http://www.divxmovies.com/codec/

Through explorer, my camera videos are at 15 FPS and 188kbps, 320W x 240H. The audio is at 88kbps, 8 bit sample size, and pcm format.

I downloaded the graphedit program.
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downlo...t_141.html

I open up the mvptranscode.grf file with graphedit and see under the video encoder basic tab that MPEG1 and Pal buttons are selected. Does this matter, or is this just a choice that I need to make? I hit the button for MPEG2 and NTSC and hit apply. It shows that I used the MPEG MainConcept AG encoder and its at 320 x 240 and 25 fps. The audio tab shows the Mainconcept encoder and at 16 bits per sample and is selected on 224Kbps.

I also downloaded the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility to see what I have.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...laylang=en

The divx codec doesn't show in the list from the checkup utility.
It shows 2 different Ulead video decoders, one Intervideo Hauppauge video decoder, and one MainConcept Hauppauge video decoder.

I opened up the GB-PVR config.xml and see that divx is not one of the supported decoders, but I think that we can modify these as sub only has ones in there that are fully tested. I think I saw a post somewhere about this. How do I know what exact name to type in there so that it associates back to the divx codec?

What else do I need to do?

Thanks Smile

Okay - bear in mind that I only 'fixed' it with a lot of fiddling around, and it was one of those 'try everything and see if it works' scenarios... with that caveat out the way:

The Microsoft XP Decoder Utility only applies to MPEG-2 codecs; for a list of all codecs you have installed, try gspot.headbands.com - it'll show which codecs can play each file.

I may be wrong, but I *think" config.xml only shows the mpeg2 codecs - you don't have to worry about adding any other in there.

To try and force a particular codec, what I did was in the Xvid Decoder configuration uncheck all the 4cc support boxes. I think that if your file is using the Divx codec, it superimposes a 'DivX' logo on the bottom right of the screen for the first 5 secs or so.

Again, YMMV, etc., but good luck.

You can disable the logo, just go into the DivX codec properties/config (If it's installed correctly, you'll see it). One of the tabs has 3 or 4 check boxes.
