Krista those aren't the actual frequencies. I havent seen a single ClearQAM cable system that ever uses channels below 70, or above 125 for that matter. What those number you see, like 5-2, 9-2, 26-1, etc. are the result of channel remaps due to the PSIP data that is in the broadcast, mainly so that you'd know your local channels are still there even though they're using a different physical channel now.

A nice list of frequencies again: http://cpan.uwinnipeg.ca/htdocs/Video-Ca...es.pm.html

Try scanning using the HRC frequencies if you cant find anything in the regular scan. To save you time just scan 65-135, because I'm sure not a single channel will be found before 65.

Thank you for contacting our email support desk. Our understanding is that you can get the same HD stations over cable as you do over the air using a clear QAM tuner with BASIC service and by tuning to the QAM frequency that the HD signal is carried on. The QAM frequency is usually listed next to the channel number or call letters of the station in most listings, or at titantv.com. Be sure to select "Digital Broadcast".
Again, thank you for your inquiry. Have a great day!

Time Warner Cable - Kansas City

what i dont understand is that i looked at titantv web page and dont see any thing the come close to tuner request in GB. unless i am seeing things wrong.
GB detects over 100 channels and i can't preview them since the config locks up half way through trying to select each and every one to see if there is a picture.

I partially agree but personally see stations at 67, 130 and 132 and frequency wise there are 5 in the much lower FM band that aren't quite at channels 95-99. I think there is a lot of liberty on the use of spectrum for QAM distribution so sub should scan the whole range.

Yea, i realized that after researchig a bit, there are some places that go over 130, I was just about to edit my post to say scan from 65-135

Do you know the frequency range you think should be scanned I can create the qam.ini file if you lend your expertise to the starting frequency, ending frequency, and step interval (i.e. how much between each interval).

I think Sub got it as close to the CATV standard as he could except where he goes starts going down at 126, I would have kept adding 6000

122=781250,0,121
123=787250,0,122
124=793250,0,123
125=799250,0,124
126=805250,0,125
127=811250,0,126
128=817250,0,127
129=823250,0,128
...
etc all the way up to 138

However with subs's method and with mine I still can't fine CTA stations that I expect to find on 130 or 132

You really need to know what your cableco does.

After doing some research, I've come to the conclusion that your cableco most likely will be using one of the 3 frequency standards: STD, HRC, or IRC.

I've also seen forum posts from AVS ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...ost6201269 ) and some mythtv forums (cant find em again) where they mention frequencies that are like HRC, but 3MHz higher in each one. In fact, when Krista thought she had found some frequencies for the HD locals, the frequencies she found were using this standard. I've even seen some professional QAM cable equipment ( http://www.rl-drake.com/digital/dd860.pdf in there, look at channel charts) using those frequencies. Heck even my cable modem is using 723MHz as channel 112 for downsteam.

So that makes it 4 possible standards. So I created 4 different qam.ini files, for the 4 different frequency sets. I'm pretty sure I got them correctly based on what I got from the below sites. For the channels over 125, I just added 6MHz and so on since I didnt notice anything special like the channels in the mid band and the low band.

http://www.jneuhaus.com/fccindex/cablech.html

http://cpan.uwinnipeg.ca/htdocs/Video-Ca...es.pm.html

So anyone who's having problems detecting channels, give these a try one by one. If you wish you can just edit the qam.ini files to scan from channels 65-135 to save you some time, but I'd rather scan it all now.

Before scanning, I'd suggest calling your cableco and asking which standard they use, STD, HRC, or IRC. I've noticed that my Analog cable from Comcast uses HRC, while I find the digital channels appear when scanning STD.

So here you go, 4 qam.ini files for your testing pleasure.

sub Wrote:Awesome!

I wish there was away I could identify which channels are encrypted, but I havnt found a way yet. It would certainly make the process simpler.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your question (You are talking about WINTV - right?) and please do not be offended if you already know this but:

WinTV uses the Access Database for all it's information.
One of the Tables has a True/False flag for each channel and if one looks at it's context with the other entries in that particular table ,it sure looks to me like it is an indicator that it is encrypted.

Fire up Access and take a look at the tables.

Those tables was how I was able to build a spreadsheet of TV stations from Verizon for use with WinTV that I keep nearby.

Yeah, but that not really what I meant. I dont want to look in the database of some other application to find out if a particular channel is encrypted. I want to be able to detect this automatically from the data broadcast while scanning for channels.
