Aspect ratio video problem

what happens if you get it all going then switch to single monitor
doesnt matter ablout the second or first display then
thats how i run mine running 2 monitor seems to always throw in strange happenings i have found
did you select treat second monitor as tv ?
if so what output did you select ie 720p 1080p?
and if not that would be what i would be trying
also once yo9u have done that select a different resolution something closer to the native resolution of the display

(this is for a nvidia card from what you have said this is what you use)

This issue has been frustrating me too. I have an nVidia 8600GTS with the 158.22 drivers, and a KWorld 380U DVB-T tuner on Win XP SP2 using GBPVR 0.99.12.

With hardware acceleration turned off in the nVidia Video Decoder control panel, everything works ok. With hardware acceleration turned on:

• Overlay doesn't work on the second monitor
  
• VMR7 works only if the aspect ratio is set to "fill". Luckily this is mostly correct if the nVidia Video Decoder is set to "Content Default" for the display type, but the bottom of the OSD is cut off.
  
• VMR9 doesn't work at all (GBPVR locks up when I try to watch TV)
  
• VMR9 Custom uses even more CPU than without hardware acceleration and the resolution doesn't change if the window is resized, leading to a blocky picture.
  

I also tried DScaler5, which sort of worked if the output colour space was set to NV12, but deinterlacing stopped working, rendering it unusable.

I for one would be perfectly willing to put up with the OSD not filling the whole screen if it meant that hardware acceleration worked properly.

I'm not going to be doing that hack you're referring to. Instead you'll have to use one of the work arounds discussed here, or hassle nvidia to fix the problem.

Did you try the disabling the hardware acceleration in your video decoder so that you could try use different aspect ratios with VMR on your second monitor?

I'm giving up at this point. No way am I turning off HW acceleration. Though the Core2Duo is probably well capable of playback of most stuff on its own it tends to get difficult to use the PC for anything else at all...as I've said before, this isn't just a HTPC.

So thats it really. GBPVR can be used except for certain files. No chance in hell that NV or GBPVR are going to work (whether its a bug or a deficiency I really don't care).

Its disappointing, but I'll live. Its only a handful of files.

Forgot to add - thanks for all the help up until this point. MAybe one day I'll have some time to tinker with the monitor settings again. For now, there is far too much watching of content to be done. :-)

I guess that is the expensive option (having only just bought the 7600GT). But knowing my luck that will have some other completely different set of issues for me. :-(

Don't get me wrong. 90% of the content I playback is fine. GBPVR still has a place in my home.

Sorry, but thats pretty much all the options I've got for you. Its very clearly a bug in the nvidia drivers, and not something GB-PVR (or other apps) can do anything about without nvidia's help.

Personally I think the new ATI HD 2400 or ATI HD 2600 cards sound pretty cool, and would probably be my card of choice if I was buying now.

if I get it going with two monitors then disconnect the LCD and leave just the plasma I get the situation where there is no (black) display on the plasma at boot. Its nominally set to 720p (but adjusted for overscan to 684). Its a Pioneer PDP504HDE (And won't respond to anything higher than 720p on the HDMI input or 768 on the VGA input.)

Just thought I'd post back to say that it's all been working since I upgraded to 1.0.16. If I use the new PVRX2 I can use hardware acceleration with VMR9, all the aspect ratio settings work as they should, the OSD is not clipped and CPU use is low. Thanks.

PVRX2.exe always uses VMR9 Custom renderer, which is immune to this nvidia problem. GBPVR.exe was also fine using the VMR9 Custom renderer. The problem only really kicked in when you used the regular VMR7/VMR9 renderers.
