You need to rescan QAM on a regular basis since cablecos move the physical channels but keep the same virtual number. My CBS HD went from 108.1 to 108.2 to 108.1 to 118.1 over a two week period. PBS HD has been disappearing in some markets also.

To add to this, before Rogers cut 90% of my available QAM feeds completely they regularly played with the PID values needed to map audio and video. Really the cableco's have no interest in making QAM broadcasts easy for PVR users.

That's the really strange thing, I am rescanning, sometimes I can find it, other times no. I have altered the wiring to home-run, etc. so I don't think it's a signal-strength issue. I hope H. is putting some more work into the drivers for this card, they are very flakey! I have never lost a channel on my eyeTV!

After going through this post and a few others, I have tried various different things to get both tuners on my 1600's working with no luck.

I can get the analog side setup and working without a problem, but I am getting nowhere setting up the HD tuners. They are setup but I get no feed from them.

After checking out a few things I know that I can get HD OTA (I got this info from antennaweb.org), but I am unable to determine if my cable provider is sending HD channels out with QAM or not. When I am scanning the channels it seems like it is working, but then it just hangs.

It could be something that I am doing, and I just wanted to get that checked.

Thanks,
Petch

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

What is the proper way to setup my digital tuner?

I am running the mapping scan, and I am only getting black channels.... this is why I thought I was doing something wrong.

Thanks,
Petch

The best way to know whether or not your cable company sends QAM clear signals is through a TV that can tune QAM, or asking the cable company (Highly doubt they'd know what you're talking about and will just keep pushing their cable box). If you have a new TV with an HD tuner, chances are that it has QAM tuning, and 100% if it has a CableCard slot. Scan on the TV, and then set the channels you find (or not) on the TV on GBPVR. Remember, QAM channels will have no pattern, and will not be the same as the channels numbered in the listings.

For GBPVR, when the scan is done, you'll have a hard time finding channels since most QAM channels are blank. I'd suggest checking every channel ending with a .1 and .2. For example, check all the channels like 88.1 110.1, etc. if you find a broadcast on a channel like that, there's a good chance that channel will have more subchannels with programming.

If you don't find anything, make sure you have adequate signal. If you still can't find it, make sure you have the QAM patch found somewhere in this thread and the survival thread. I think 1.0.16 already comes patched so that wont be necessary. Also try scanning using the different qam.ini files found in this thread as well. Some cable companies use different frequencies, so you might want to give that a try.

If you still don't succeed, it's OTA time.
