Can I just ask if it's supposed to go back to the main menu when the recording starts or is it as a result of the problem I have with it quitting to the main menu instantly without recording when I select 'record until I exit live tv'?

If there was a scheduled recording, then yes it is supposed to drop back to the menu.

I'm am aware of a bug that can cause this, and I'll be fixing it before the next release.

It drops back to the menu any way I record, even if it's not a pre-scheduled recording. For instance if I'm watching Live TV and something pops up that I want to record, so I press the record button on my remote and select one of the options it'll drop back into the menu.

Yes, as I said above, I'm aware of a bug that can cause this to happen and it'll be fixed in the next release.
