Since it's a wireless MVP, I'd try to get that working. My guess is along the same line as stefan's: It's probably routers' wireless encryption that the MVP can't handle.

To test this theory, on your router try turning off wireless encryption (temporarily) and see if the MVP can then connect to your network. If it works, then you'll need to refer to your manual to figure out which encryption scheme it supports.

Also, here's a tidbit off of the Hauppauge FAQ for MVPs:

Wireless MediaMVP cannot obatin an IP address

Problem: Cannot obtain an IP address when trying to connect to a wireless router.

Solution: If the Router has a setting for "Authentication type" in its Wireless configuration, this should be set to "Automatic" or "Open". If it is set to "Shared", the wMVP may not be able to obtain an IP address from the router.

I just got up this morning, and I need to get to work, but I'll try these suggestions when I get home, thanks!

Quick follow up. I've read the above, and I am going to list some additional information and if any of this seems incorrect, please let me know.

This will be in my head, because I'm at work right now and won't be able to actually test this until later this evening (I'm in California). I apologize if I get some things wrong, because as I said, I don't have everything in front of me.

I am looking for a howto on getting tftpd32 to act as a DHCP server. I have an existing router (dlink) that's set for 192.168.0.1. It sounds like I need to change that to 192.168.1.1, correct? Again, I don't have this in front of me, but I thought my subnet mask was 255.255.255.0, I don't change that, do I?

I then run tftpd32, but am unsure what values go where in the dchp tab. There's a blank for some boot file, do I leave that blank?

I think this is probably wasting everyone's time doing it like this. I'll post more tonight. Thanks for the help so far though!

Here's another thought. The only reason GBPVR needs access to the internet is for the EPG right?

Is there a way to manually download the EPG from another computer (which is connected to the internet) and then just, using a flash drive or something) copying it into the GBPVR directory?

You can do this using the XMLTV EPG source option + some zap2it xmltv grabber software.

Yep, xmltv for the listings. It creates an xml file then GBPVR reads the xml file. You can actually have it run on a computer, then have another computer (running GBPVR) use it over mapped drives.

If you're dead-set on a crossover cable, do yourself a favor and just bridge the 2 NICS on your PC. It takes about 5 minutes to setup and works great.
I set this up when I had my GBPVR server by my TV, along with an MVP and the xbox. I had 1 network cable to NIC1, and either had the xbox or the MVP connected to NIC2 via crossover cable.

Assign an IP address of like, 192.168.0.20 to NIC2 (crossover cable) and (I think) right click on it and select bridge connections (something like that - it might also be on the left side of the "network connection" screen.

When it's all done, the MVP should magically be able to find your DHCP server (be advised that it also enables the windows firewall, so you may want to verify your allow rules on it).

If it doesn't work, unbridge it and bridge the other connection. IIRC, it picks the NIC that's lowest on the PCI slot order to be the "outside" network. I know I had to play with it a couple of times to get it right.

As far as the DHCP server goes, I seem to remember some issues with the MVP having issues if it's on a different subnet than the PVR/DHCP server. I could be wrong on that, though, but just to avoid a major headache, you're probably better off keeping everything on the same subnet.

I decided I was being stupid about the whole thing. Since my computer was going to be in my entertainment center anyway, there was no real reason to have an MVP. I took it back, bought an fx5200 and am just using the svideo out to my tv. Awesome results. Everything is working perfectly, I just need to tweak the colour settings a bit, but I'm very happy so far.

Actually, that brings up another question, but this isn't really the right forum. When I play an avi or mpeg through mediaplayer, it shows up on my monitor, but the video itself doesn't go to the tv. I see my desktop and mediaplayer, and the sound comes through, but the video portion of media player (again, on my tv only) is black. Not sure why yet...

I dunno. Are you using 2 separate desktops or is it "mirrored"?

I've played around with this, and can get it to work, but never on both screens at once. It's weird...

I'm using mirrored, or "cloned" as the settings say. Why would it matter? If the screen is showing the media player window, and playing the sound, why wouldn't it show the contents.

I can get it to show up on my tv if I separate the displays. Then it won't play on my monitor, only on the tv. If I open another media player window while the first one is open (in cloned mode), it shows the second one just fine on both my monitor and the television. I've done some poking around in other forums, and it appears this is a known quirk. Not much that can be done at the present.
