Yep, that's my task manager, I was hoping MJW would know which ones to look. for. Big Grin I also suggested to check for his DHCP and/or firewall that might be blocking his MVP from seeing his server

MJW

Did you get this resolved? As I read through this thread, there's some mixed up and misleading suggestions.

I believe you've said when you look at task manager, you don't see any instances of gbpvr.exe running but you have the G icon in your tray, yes? If yes, check your gbpvr config and make sure you've selected them to run under the MVP tab - number of servers to autostart.

so what you guys are saying is that the gb-pvr media mvp server is running, even if the window isn't displayed?

I do get gbpvr.exe in the "processes tab" in task manager

Yes. You will have a small box for each instance of the server running. Only, all or some may be hidden. Therefore you should not concern yourself with them at the moment. Use Task Manager, make sure you have the service and the gbpvr running. As rcsheller said, make sure you have set at least one server to auto start in the GB-PVR config.... For testing don't run the GB-PVR user interface (don't try to watch TV) on your server. That way you can be sure that when you check the task manager, you'll only see MVP servers...

Actually, I believe that you have your computer setup correctly, and that your network is causing the problem. For example, your MVP isn't able to find your PVR server...

When you unplug and then plug in the MVP, and then check Network status, do you see the IP and name of your Server?

If this is still confusing, we may have to start at the beginning...

i really think you guys are wrong, I can get the mvp to connect, but no gb-pvr on the mvp, there is something wrong with the program that pushes it to the mvp. every other time i've used it, i had the little black window, and now i don't and it doesn't work.

The black box only shows if the GBPVR recording service is configured to "interact with the desktop".

Take a look at the service configuration...administrative tools->Services

or click start, run, and services.msc

I prefer for the black box not to appear so I uncheck that option.

You might also want to check the windows event logs for any indication of programs crashing and post back what you find.
