about once a year... i try to keep my main home machine cutting edge and trying to keep winXP happy after motherboard/cpu upgrades isn't worth the time trying to fix issues, so I rebuild clean (i don't install alot of stuff on my home systems, just games and a few dev tools).

My work PCs go as long as possible between rebuilds, one has been running XP for about 3 years now. Like others have stated, i have too much installed and tweaked the way I like it to start all over Wink
MY PVR:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Hardware: Silverstone LC13-E, Athlon II 250, Asrock 785GMH, 2GB Corsair RAM, 250GB WD HDD, 1TB WD Black, Hauppauge PVR-150 MCE tuner (s-video to Dish STB), HDHomeRun (ATSC x2), MCE2004 for Rx, USB-UIRT for Tx, Sony VL600 Remote, 36" Sony Wega HD CRT on DVI to embedded ATI HD4200.
TV Service: Dish Network and Antenna Pics 'n Details

One machine I rebuild every time it boots (DeepFreeze).
Normally I never reinstall the O/S. If I upgrade machines, I just either move the disks or clone them to the new ones and do a 'repair' if it hickups on the new hardware.
This last time I decided to install from scratch as the old machine was getting a bit bogged down with startup processes. I've been running it a few weeks and it's a real pain trying to find things and having to keep installing stuff when I find it missing.

I've never rebuilt the machine. It is around 3 years old now.

I rebuild only if hardware issues/upgrades force the matter. Recently did so to my HTPC. Powersupply went bad and fried some stuff.

Well, I meant my dev machine. I kinda bash it around. It slows down with the trialware and other messing around.

My PVR hasn't been rebuilt since I got it stable joining you guys..., last year

main desktop machine ???........... well............... I don't.............
It's a mac !Big Grin

But the games/hobby/tryout etc machine.... about once every 2 years.
The (mail)server/HTPC is backed-up automaticly once a week
and there is a bootcamped macbook pro with Vista, rebuided it 3 times in a month now, so that makes it an average of once a year I guess.

As for AV, I'm happy with Active Virus Shield it has kaspersky AV components and it's free !

im a stronger believer that nothing beats norton, i never get a virus/worm/trojan horse/whatever.

i know others that use the free scanners that sometimes do get a virus.

and if all i have to do is format my machine once a year, hey its good to do that anyway clear out all the crap.

stu8080 Wrote:Welcome back reven! long time no see.

I invariable do this once a year, by that time strange things start to bug me and things slow down a bit, its easier to start fresh than try to fix things.
and i never really left, just havent had anything to say Smile gbpvr is still recording my tv (pretty old version though), but thats it and i dont watch much nz tv.
