I'm using the latest 3.4d1 beta drivers from the Hauppauge web site (the one that says it supports QAM tuning). However, when I check the HVR-1600 entries in device manager, it shows the driver as "1.62.25129.0" and is dated May 9, 2007.
Out of curiosity, I uninstalled all Hauppauge drivers, downloaded again, used their hcwclear utility to erase any old settings, and reinstalled. No change.
With WinTV, the autoscan of clear-QAM channels results in a list of 49 channels (from the two tuners). Though it's unclear why the result is an odd number, since both tuners are connected to the same cable line and should receive the same number of channels? Weird.
My stations are all on physical channels between 73 and 120 or so. The station list doesn't show whether it's QAM64 or QAM256, and none of the stations show any kind of digital station id, like 8.1 and so on.
Both of my HVR-1600's are the 74021 models that are supposed to have QAM tuning.
Anyway, I can view a few channels in WinTV, but if I try to scan the stations up or down, it results in a black screen in WinTV. I have to exit WinTV and restart to be able to see anything again. However, I can usually click the Menu item and use "select channel" to jump directly to a channel and watch it. But, this sometimes results in the black screen too. So, WinTV isn't much use either.
So, I'm not sure where to go from here. I've run scan after scan in GB-PVR, on both tuners, and can't get anything.
First of all awesome work sub, great UI, solid release...but I'm in the same boat as Anthony. I can scan and watch QAM on the WinTV app, but GBPVR doesnt give me any channels found. Can QAM256 and QAM64 channels be on the same signal or is it either one of the other? If the latter is the case, my cable modem's config tells me it's QAM256. The way the HD channels are setup is also indicative of QAM256 (2 subchannels of HD is the most on any channel, and any channel with HD only has a maximum of 3 more subchannels that are in SD)
Is there any way to scan QAM channels without a program guide? I'd configured my zap2it account for antenna only, and now zap2it won't let me get in to add digital cable to my listings. And without a program guide I can't get GB-PVR to scan for QAM. Any way around this? I'm a new user so I apologize in advance if this is an easy fix...

I did my first of many scan without configuring zap2it at all. I just used the analog listings account.
