I can do some further tests.

I toggled netbios on/off to verify it was the culpret.

I suppose I could play around with the LMHosts file.

Let me know if you want me to do some testing.

Regards-

To be honest, I'm not that concerned. If you find you need it on for things to work, then leave it on.

casteld73's problems are unusual & not something most of us need worry about Smile What is happening or not happening for you?? The most common cause of the MVP not connecting is a firewall blocking access.

I have had many a situations like that in the last nearly 2 years using GBPVR (ver .95, 98, 1.0.8, 1.0.16). I have tried every dongle and every tool recommended in the forum (e.g. tftpd32 dhcp server etc.) and with MVP it is always the same story: When it goes on the blink eventually (after I give up after amy attempts over a couple of nights...) the fix FOR ME has always been to:
1 disconnect MVP for 3 minutes or so then reinstall MVP software
2 connect MVP to Hauppauge server software (that will make it find the DHCP, and will DOWNLOAD THE APPLICATION (this seems to be the key in the recovery),
3 stop the Hauppauge MVP service - the two Hauppauge services must be configured for manual, NOT automatic, start)
4 run GBPVR and it connects immediately
5 from then on if there is any trouble connecting I generally do not have to reinstall MVP software, I just start the Haup MVP service and stop it after MVP connects (it will do that even with GBPVR still running), then the instant I stop the Haup service GBPVR connects.

NOTES (may help someone figure out what is going on)
1 I direct connect to MVP (crossover cable) and the IP in the PC is fixed (as recommended by Haup.) So technically there should be no need for DHCP to assign any IP
2 When I run tftpd32 I can see the IP of the MVP being discovered and recognized. However this never fixes anything. Of course with fixed IP there is nothing to do.
3 when the MVP connection to the GBPVR server does not function correctly, GBPVR always recognizes the MVP and ALWAYS starts the remote session for it, so as soon as I terminate the Haup service (step 3 or 5 above) the GBPVR session was already created and takes over
4 I believe that the troubles you describe and I have experienced relate to the MVP "application software" (dongle?) needing to be reloaded. Somehow GBPVR becomes unable to send the dongle or to reconnect to whatever is there (although the haup service can) despite a proper connection between MVP and PC. A utility to force downloading the dongle to the MVP might fix it once and for all. However it is beyond my skills and my limited understanding of the internals of GBPV/MVP.

I love GBPVR (perticularly now with Schedules Direct working and with plugins for photos and music) and think is one of the best pieces of freeware on the planet. I would not trade it for any other software I have tested so long as I can find ways to resynch my MVP to work with it. The above seems to work for now. I hope it helps
