I could try legacy drivers for the card. I don't know how far back I can go with this nvidia quadro fx 1500. currently loaded is 5/26/08.

Availible from GBPVR:
System defaul
ATI MPEG video decoder
intervideo no css decoder for H...
Cyberlink Video/SP decoder
ffdshow MPEG4 decoder
HCW Mpeg2 decoder
mpeg video decoder.

I'll poke around nvidia's website and see what i can try.
I'll post back when I'm done, thank you soooo much!

if you look in device manager are there any warnings of hardware not been loaded
you dont have any anti virus stuff running do you maybe a scanner ?

also there is a option that says use hardware acceleration on single screen or similar
under 3d settings

No warnings or conflicts. I do not have Virus scanner on this computer. I tried one of the oldest legacy drivers and it's the same. I tried shutting down my imon remote control and lcd display stuff, no change. monitoring task manager i don't se anything taking up a lot of processing power. whenever i see problems like this though it's usually some kind of driver error. once it was a processor driver that was bad in my laptop.

but all i changed when i moved the hard disc is the mobo, processor, video card, and the ram. the only driver's i loaded were for the mobo (maybe three of them) and the nvidia. I'll try to see if there are updates for the mobo drivers.

you did not post your motherboard model....

you failed to provide some important info such as is this a fresh new install or did you simply repair install for the new motherboard?

To me it really sounds as tho you do not have the chipset and ide drivers installed for your motherboard and this would be the number one cause of this problem. Installing the motherbaord drivers should solve the problem...

also, you need to check in your bios that your motherboard is set to acpi mode and if it is not you will have to install fresh windows again in the acpi mode as it is important on the install and cannot be enabled if it was not installed on your operating system for that board (Long storey). In device manager I believe your computer would be noted as a "standard PC" and not "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC"

Just some things to try

Good luck

edit - just saw post 14

hope it's not a Via chipset board

The mobo is Elitegroup PT890T-A. (I aquired it free from a friend) i think i saw one chip on the board said via but i don't know about the one under the heatsink. the manual says sopmethjing about northbridge and south bridge. I've heard bad things about via chipsets.

Also, yes my PC is configured as standard PC. I see the ACPI thing in the mobo manual, says it supports ACPI 2.0.

Not fresh install, just transfered my HD to new case, mobo, cpu, and GPU. I would do almost anything to not have to reinstall XP. I thought i posted this info, but maybe not. It was late last night.

When I uninstall all the video card drivers, everythign works fine. even videos play smoothly. I was browsing nvidia's website, and have tried every release of driver for this card. Even the performance editions that are certified by AutoCAD and 3DsMax. same results.

Is there a way/place to get generic graphics adapter driver, like from windows or something.
Thank you for your help!

you will have to install windows Xp for the OS to have the required underlay files for your new motherboard/ there is no way around that that i am aware of as I have a similar problem years ago and found an article on the web that stated you need to install xp when the motherboard is in acpi mode to correct the difficulty I had with 3d acceleration

You should ret to do the repair install and that may install the needed software.

repair install is kinda like a fresh install only it leave your configuration the way it is and software all installed.

Try that first if you can. Your computer should be a bullet after the install and motherboard drivers

Good luck

Edit from Microsoft - Device Manager does not permit the change from a Non-ACPI HAL to an ACPI HAL. You must use a new install of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 for this kind of change. Change from an ACPI HAL to a Non-ACPI HAL only for troubleshooting purposes.

you need to find the manufacturer of the card and download the drivers from there (hopefully be a picture you can match up thast way if no number or identification on card )
are you 100% sure you installed the correct motherboard drivers
sounds like the drivers are wrong

where did you get the card from and why was it removed maybe the video card is a dud
do you have another card you can try

i have done exactly the same as you (swapped motherboard etc) and i didnt have any problems

but a fresh or repair install could be easier at least it rules out the software side of things

Normally i wouldn't care about reinstalling xp, but the copy I have isn't exactly legit. I've never heard of a repair install. My friend upgrades clients computers so i can only assume this is how he aquired the hardware, or sometimes he will just swap in a different video card for what they need, and keep the old stuff. Well, I'd like to find out more about this repair install. However if it comes down to it, At least I will be able to get rid of this stupid partition I made. one drive for DVR, and one for software, but then the DVR is only limited to what i've alowed it. oh well.
