Ok, given your post that appeared as I wrote the above, not such a stupid question!! At 60Hz you'll never get a smooth news ticker from a UK broadcast. You need to persuade it to let you use 50Hz. Or download powerstrip and get that to set it to 50. I assume this is a CRT TV via an analog output not HDMI? I've only really played with HDMI to an LCD but for sure 60Hz always produced awful tickers.

Yes. CRT via s-video to scart adapter. If I can set it to 50hz with CCC or override with Powerstrip would that also fix the lipsync problem or is that a separate issue?

To be honest with the lipsync I'm not sure. I've not had issues on SD UK broadcasts with my 780G (ATI HD3200 - but have with the BBC HD, but that's another story altogether). But when I have tried anything with it set to 60Hz it looks awful. So I'd certainly fix that and see if you're left with any sync issues. Given it has to fit 25fps into 60 which doesn't go very well, you might find the lipsync issues go away also...

I found for many a CCC release that it wouldn't offer me 1080p@50, only 60, but when I recently reinstalled everything I found updated CCC from the Gigabyte site (based on 8.11 I believe) did offer 1080p@50. I never understood why other versions refused to do it and am not sure if it's down to them or my TV being weird. But powerstrip did the job - although I was capable of setting displays the TV couldn't show which meant a boot into safe mode which was rather annoying... I've not played with s-video on these ATI cards but assume powerstrip will work the same way.

yea, when you look in dxva checker, you'll notice 2 categories, decoder device and processor device...
when you play a file in dxvachecker, it'll show at bottom what devices are in use, and if it shows a decoder device, then its the card doing most of the decoding...
now the codec does have a bit to do with things still, as the video has to be demuxed already, so splitters can affect it, and the codec has to pass the video off properly to the card, but after that it's all hardware...
and from what i've seen, nvida and ati decoders work well in that respect..they pass all relevant info needed...Smile cyberlink only seems to work well for h.264.
cyberlink mpeg2 always looks stuttery..i thnk they disabled something outside of their player for mpeg2..

processor device is the deinterlacer..which i find is the only truely necessary thing...
i've gotten several software decoders to work perfectly as long as they utilize the card's deinterlacer..mpeg2 is really easy to decode in cpu, so never puts a 1.6ghz beyond 1 core at 50%...[ffdshow]

if you get dxvachecker to show both devices working, and it stutters, then it's the card...
try using ffdshow beta6 with nv12 output, anad you'll see no decoder device being used, but hopefully the deinterlacer will..and you should get decent output...that is, if it's just the decoder being a problem..
if it still stutters, then it's the card's deinterlacer, meaning drivers...
there's no way i know of the bypass that part...too much horsepower needed...

also have you tried evr with ati codec? sometimes it accells when others can't..
if you set that setting i mentioned b4 to 0, it should disable hardwaredecode, but not deinterlacing for all codecs..sometimes smoothing things out...
that setting works great of 2400's as they don't have the muscle inside for hd decode, but can deinterlace fine..
i'd try to make sure deinterlacing was working properly first, then go for decoder...without it, decoding isn't of much use...

now that the cards have come down a bit more in price, i might just get one to see if we can't solve this conundrum..

.ts isn't affecting it, nor the mux..they are taken out of the equation by the time the card sees it..
any codec you use will have to output NV12 colorspace to do accell, works on both ati and nvidia cards, tho some do work with YUV2..all other colorspaces don't work well...

hmmm, have you tried mpchc splitter? it seems to help on non-inprogress stuff..
i know it helped my 1550 before i got decode working, at least on clients...

i'm curious if cyberlink plays a dvd fine in it's own player...
and definitely check both progressive and interlaced output..
progressive doesn't need any deinterlacing..so processor device should show none..

I use the cyberlink mpeg2 decoder on my HD3200 and it's fine, smooth as silk. The PDVD7.3 one. Also the ATI mpeg2 decoder also worked well last time I had that installed.

yea, i'd try what bigmoose esaid, 50hz stuff on a 60hz monitor isn't easy...
i'm surprised they only offer 60hz in pal land..you'd think they'd know by now...
i bet that's the source of your problem..i assumed you were using a flat panel...Smile
[which can usually handle 60hz as it's progressive at heart..crt's are almost never progressive internally]

and any sd source will need deinterlacing..it's all interlaced...so will show the problem...720p may not..

I had an issue where audio was out of sync but I think it got worse over time. It usually occured when the stream properties changed (like when it went to commercials and the sound changed from 5.1 to 2.0). I finally fixed it by setting the default output on the sound card to 48/16 or 48/24.

It may not work in your case but figured I'd mention it.
