tipstir Wrote:I too have Comcast Digital Cable (Platinum) and tested out SageTV works with WinTV PVR Cards, but I did my own testing and didn't like that UI either. BeyondTV worst. Why are you using N Decoder, and I've tried that with GBPVR on another PC that N Video wasn't to happy with it. I still fall back to MainConcepts Encoder/Decoder 1.42 MPEG 1/2. DSCALER5 Decoder is free, but still a bit buggy to use.

Tipstir,
Could you tell me how you got sound? I'm a little lost at to how to set this up so I can get sound. Also I'm not sure where I indicated I was using N Decoder, how the heck can I tell? I would love to use MC Encoder but I'm not going to pay $500 for it.

Stefan,
Thank you! You just cleared something up for me. I was setting that to "Internal Tuner" which explains my recording garbage.

I've seen that other people have had the problem with the same Object Reference error. I'll play around with the live preview and codec settings. Anyone have a suggestion of a free/inexpensive codec I should use for Video/Audio?

Does anyone know if the PVR-500 supports live preview? Also should I be setting up two capture sources (just give them a different board #) for the PVR-500?

Ok i was able to remote into my box and now (thanks again Stefan!) I'm able to record and view my recordings (can't tell the quality yet, remote control isnt' very good for viewing videos = ).

I do not have use of both tuners since I attempted to record two shows at the same time and I had a conflict, so even though I have the PVR-500 selected I'm only using one (as its configured). I've added the 2nd source and just put it to #2 card and I'll try that once tvguide fills in. I used a seperate zap2it account I hope thats OK.

yes

Yes. Usually board #1 and #2, but these could be higher if you have any other Hauppauge cards in your machine.

Thanks for the info Sub! Looks like I'm headed in the right way.

Could you let me know what the typical issue(s) is if you're getting the "Object reference..." error I mentioned above?

Also are there any guides as to how to get sound to your TV working or does this only work with external speakers from your sound card?

Do you have some type of "request" list for certain hardware that you are looking someone to donate (to enhance GB-PVR) support? I have a ton of hardware lying around and would be more then willing to donate something if you needed it.

It could be any thing. This is a very generic error. Email your logs to me at support@devnz.com and I'll take a look.

I dont know. It usually just works - plug the line-out into the tv.

To be honest, since I'm in New Zealand, its probably not practical to send me hardware. If you want to donate some cash (see donate button top right), then I'll put it to good use.

My best friend is in NZ so I know how expensive it is to send him stuff, so a donation is on its way.

The PVR-500 only comes with an S-Video out (and a bunch of inputs). Does anyone have a PVR-500 and/or NForce2 mobo that can point me in the right direction for sound?

I may open a new thread on the outstanding issues so people don't have to read my rantings.

I'll send out my logs.

Cheers for the donation.

The PVR500 doesnt have an S-Video out. In fact, it has no outputs.

Playback will just use you default system sounds device. If you can hear normal windows sounds, then you should also get audio when playing back videos.

NP on the donation, you saved me a BeyondTV license (and experience!).

I meant to say the videocard had the svideo out, but then I realized what I had been thinking. I was thinking that the audio would also use the svideo connection from my VIDEOCARD. I guess mentally I had been thinking it was coming out of the PVR-500.

So I'm pretty sure sound is working I just need to connect the audio out port on my soundcard to the audio in on my TV (I hope I can find an adapter for that!).

I've sent you all the logs I had (wasn't sure which ones you needed) but I zip'd them up so its a small file.

I setup the 2nd card and now I can record two shows at once! I just ordered the MS MCE remote (which comes with two IR emitters). Do I need to set that up under the tuners in the Capture Source tab or the DVD & Remote tab (or both)?
