Thanks BenTO, but this is all not working out for me. I also don't understand how the recording service is related to the Config program. I'll wait for the next release to come around in the hope that it will address this issue.

Okay, last thing to try... Sorry, I think I gave you the wrong info about removing the icon off the Systray.

If you are using W2K or XP, go into the Task Manager.   (CTRL-ALT-DEL -  Task Manager) and kill the GBPVRRecordingService.exe process.   That will get rid of the Service from memory.  Then try the InstallUtil command.

By closing the icon off the Systray, you're only closing the GBPVRTray.exe task.

I did all that already. I don't think the installutil command is choking on the fact that the service is running, but on the fact that the service exists. Even if it's stopped it cannot be re-installed as it is already registered with the system.

Also, my question remains: How is the recording service related to the configuration program? In my understanding the config prog is simply a GUI to create the configuration XML file, nothing more. Perhaps I am wrong.

The config program effectively just edits a text file (config.xml). When the use clicks "OK" to save settings to this file, it does also restart the recording service to force it to pickup the new settings.

Okay, I found out what the command to uninstall the service is:  It is installutil /u gbpvrrecordingservice.exe

See copy of text below...
[b Wrote:Quote[/b] ]
C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr>installutil /u gbpvrrecordingservice.exe

Microsoft ® .NET Framework Installation utility Version 1.1.4322.573
Copyright © Microsoft Corporation 1998-2002. All rights reserved.

The uninstall is beginning.
See the contents of the log file for the c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrrecor
dingservice.exe assembly's progress.
The file is located at c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrrecordingservice.Instal
lLog.
Uninstalling assembly 'c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrrecordingservice.exe'.
Affected parameters are:
  assemblypath = c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrrecordingservice.exe
  logfile = c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrrecordingservice.InstallLog
Removing EventLog source GB-PVR Recording Service.
Service GB-PVR Recording Service is being removed from the system...
Service GB-PVR Recording Service was successfully removed from the system.

The uninstall has completed.

After you do this, then do the installutil gbpvrrecordingservice.exe again and the config program should run and apply okay.

This is my last post about this, because I have run out of ideas!
