BTW,

On the nVidia card, I thought this was interesting, when you have the window on the second screen and press ALT+Enter to go full screen, it jumps back to the primary display...

Thats interesting. I noticed the same if GBPVR wasn't in Maximized Screen mode , but in Maximized Screen it seemed to work. But that is interesting to know.

Curious to see if this is possibly a driver specific issue compared to nVidia/ATI? Sounds like it.

NZ_DAC Wrote:Thanx for all the hard work sub - the GBPVR product is fantastic !! and far better than any of the many alternatives I have tried. However I guess it would be too good to last, and it was, the 'starting on 2nd display' is an absolute must for me - so it will be back to using the old interface and time to stop looking forward to all the great new features that are bound to be added Sad
Once again, thanks for all the work up to and including v1.0.8 (with the GBPVR interface Smile ... and best wishes for the future, I'm sure you will continue to please many other users.
Kind Regards.

Agreed, this is an absolute killer. Such a pity.

Is this what happened for you on 99.12? I do this regularly on the old GBPVR and it works as expected - fullscreen on the 2nd monitor. I'm loathe to upgrade to 1.08 now as I'm sure that I won't get any HW acceleration (though I don't need it for most sources, I certainly do for 1080p H264 playback!). :-(

there really isnt anything that can be done about using the primary display... it is a directx problem. sub knew when he made the upgrade to use directx to make the GUI look prettier, it would alienate some users, mainly those with extremely old machines, those using the TVout on the PVR350, and those who require the second monitor. These were all tradeoffs which were required to make the app look much better on most peoples systems. sub has known that the appearance of the GUI has been the weak point of the app, and wanted to correct that issue.

the old GUI is still included in this release, for those who still want to use it. That is about all you can do, sorry.

When you say the new GUI is included, do you mean it is there and will be stuck at the 99.12 functionality? The other problem with being stuck with the old release will be the availability of plugins in the future - some, such as cinema listings and weather regularly get broken, and will now likely remain broken. At that point I would have to, regretfully, leave this excellent app behind. A great pity as I'd just got GBPVR working happily for 99% of my needs. Why people are so concerned about look-and-feel is beyond me, its functionality that is important in my view. M$ Vista Aero is a classic case of this.

It may be worth popping the dual monitor issue in the survival guide. I am surprised that this affects so few people.

For the time being, I'm a happy 99.12 user.

yes the old GUI (GBPVR.exe) is included in this release, I suggest you download the installer and back it up in a few places, in case you ever need it again, since there is no guarantee that it will be included in the future.

as for plugins, well you could talk to Jeff, who does the weather plugin, he might (emphasis on might) be willing to make updates to the legacy version of the plugin when the html parsing breaks, for users like you who still use the old version.

and cinema... well I think McBainUK did a good job, and all of the cinema information is downloaded in a way which is independent of the actual plugin (remember that updater you have to run), so you should always be able to update the parser if it breaks. I am not sure if the config dialog will always remain compatible, but you can probably update the XML manually.

Hope this helps Smile

well it is sub's project... and therefore his choice on what he thinks is important. but remember, most people are not geeks, which means that they like things to look pretty.

another thing to remember, GBPVR is designed to be run on a dedicated HTPC, which means only one monitor.

cheers

While that is clearly the case now that 2nd monitors are fundementally broken with 1.08, but where did it ever say that GPVR is for a dedicated HTPC?

Look, I'm not trying to knock GBPVR. I love it, and will continue to use it on my 2nd bedroom machine as that only has one monitor (and use 99.12 until that finally stops working). I just think that anyone with 2 monitors needs to look elsewhere. Not that there is any great option out there for 2 monitors, but I guess we have to blame the graphics card manufacturer (and Direct3D), rather than sub...
