Any rename utility that renames before recording?

I've been reading this tread with interest.

I've always thought it would be no big deal to have a show information tweaked after it was recorded, like in the PostProcessing.bat.

ZRename (currently being redesgned) and other post tools would be able to take care of it.

The new XML Enhancer tool I'm working on will be able to get episode information quickly and update the GB-PVR database, as well as tweak the title and subtitles etc, each evening when an EPG update is performed. I could make it edit show information that is not recorded yet. And then when the show is finished recording, actrually rename the recorded file's filename, update the db, and even move it to a different location if you'd like.

I guess I don't really know why this has to be done bfore a show is actually recorded.... Sorry if I'm being dense...

Has to be done before the recording occurs because not all show carry episode information. On international programming I am watching several shows with over 150 epiodes. No episode information appears in the guides and I am tired of having to go daily and rename the shows. Much easier to use this tool and once a week input the info in the database

Be able to launch a viewer in a window so that the show can be watched to aid adding episode/guest information - something like VLC where rapid position changes can be made.

Good idea. I don't think I'll embed a view in the window, but if VLC is installed, I'll provide a button to launch with the selected video.

I am not sure if this is an issue with everyone, but if you have a number of utilities in your postprocessing.bat file that rely on the file name passed into the batch file to properly find and process the file, having the new name passed in saves a lot of trouble. If the file name is fixed prior to calling postprocessing.bat then the utilities have no issues. This is a "Wish List" item I wish Sub would tackle, but he hasn't been interested in the past.

Many thanks if you manage it. The UK / Radio Times listings rarely has episode information so I end up with 50 or 60 shows with the same name and no easy way of seeing which is which. with your tool and preview, I can go through them and add useful info.
I have updated some with an SQL browser, but I've not found one where you can format the layout and have to use a big horizontal scrollbar.

I still cannot see any of the manual recordings I have scheduled. I totally emptied the database of all show, deleted zap2xml files and put in only manual recordings. None of them showed until after the recording had been done.
Can this access the manual recordings? If so please tell me how

Create a couple of manual recording entries, zip up your db send to my email and let me take a look.

I get that you don't have ep data for some shows and that your are incrementing an ep number. I just think that a post-renaming utility could also increment the shows after the fact.

The new util could be made to add a episode number to the file name if it's unable to find real episode information...

Basically you want a bunch of episodes stored in the order they were recorded. (right?)

I just wonder why it needs to be renamed before it is even created...

I don't want to belabour this point. Just want to know what would be the point...
