Do you think Whurlston can help with this issue? I'm afraid I've reached the limit of my understanding of the problem. I can't seem to find a way to record the full TS stream from the HDHomerun with the supplied utilities.

Is this not the same problem that you solved with an earlier patch using a new version of gbpvrTSReader.ax?

Sub,

Here is a new file to try

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J88EM2UN

I had reset the HDHomerun app to GBPVR and the BDA mux setting to TS mux. I went to the bad acting channel and tried to record. Still could not play file while recording or after recording was stopped; however, there was a difference. This time the ts file was NOT 0Bytes. The file would play with VLC but not within GB-PVR

Hope this helps

I got this procedure off of the Silicondust website. It gives the instructions for creating an unfiltered TS file from the HDHomerun. Maybe you can post it in the wiki or reference it for other users. BTW, I am currently uploading a 30 sec clip using the below procedure; I will post link when upload is complete.

To save a 30 second unfiltered clip of a broadcast stream:

1) Use HDHomeRun Config (GUI) to choose the physical channel.
Ensure VLC is not running for the next commands...

2) Set the filter: Open a cmd prompt and run:
"C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config" FFFFFFFF set /tuner0/filter 0x0000-0x1FFF

3) Save the stream to disk:
"C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config" FFFFFFFF save /tuner0 sample.ts

4) Wait 30 seconds and stop the stream by pressing Ctrl-C.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, things still haven't quite returned to normal for me, but it's getting there. The above post is exactly what you need to capture an unfiltered stream. If you have more than one HDHR, you will need to replace "FFFFFFFF" with the device ID you want to use.

An alternative to step 2 is to use:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config" FFFFFFFF set /tuner0/program 0

OK, here is the link for the capture directly from the HDHomerun

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YMLJB6CH

program stream 606 is the one that gives trouble. It is my local CBS station

program stream 603 works fine and is the local ABC station.

Annoyingly I dont seem to be seeing the problem. With that file it successfully scans for me, and I can watch live tv on those channels.

When you scan and it crashes, is an error listed in the Windwos Event Viewer listing the faulting module? ie, PsiParser.ax, or GBPVRTSMon.ax, or something else?

I'm having issues playing the file even in VLC. It seem like there is dropouts in the stream but I don't know if it's due to network congestion or low (or possible overamped) signal. If you stream that station from the HDHomeRun Config (GUI), does the signal quality stay constant at 100% or does it fluctuate?

Neither GB-PVR or XP crashes on the problem channel. Here is the scenario: Open the Guide listing in gbpvr, got to the listing for my CBS channel (the one that won't record). I can watch the channel live all day just fine; Now I go to guide and select "quick record" It turns red and disk activity picks up; I select the red program and say "Play". The screen quickly goes away and comes right back to the guide---nothing plays but nothing crashes either. I can go to another digital channel and watch or record it just fine. There are no error messages.

This is the same problem that stattik mentions in his thread "0 byte recordings on one QAM station (v1.3.11)" back on Jan 14 2009. The fix was the patches you provided for GBPVRTSMon.ax, GBPVRTSReader.ax and PsiParser.ax dated 2/5/2009. This fix worked for me. HOWEVER, I also had the TS Timeline issues that many people experienced and so I patched AGAIN with the new gb-pvr TS Reader that you mention at the end of the survival guide. This fixed the timeline issue BUT brought back the 0 Byte recording issue.

Could the problem be a mismatch of differing versions of TSmon.ax, TSreader.ax and PsiParser.ax? What versions of each should I now have? There have been so many patches that maybe I don't have all the ones that I should.

Whurlston: My signal strength stays very constant. When I play the file in VLC, it is very smooth and no dropouts. But maybe you are looking at the CBS stream and not the ABC stream. I don't really know how to view the different streams. I just opened the file with VLC.

Post the following logs showing an attempt to do exactly what you described here (set the HDHR application back to "GBPVR" before doing so though):
Code:
GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log
GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log
PVRx2.exe.log
PVRx2.exe-native.log

Only apply a patch if the file is newer. Never patch with an older version unless you are certain the new version caused an issue.

I'm actually more interested in the signal quality than the strength at the moment. It's the third bar graph (at the bottom) and it should always remain constant at 100% when streaming. For QAM, signal strength should be > 90% as a general rule of thumb.

When I recently rebuilt my system, I just applied the consolidated patch at the end of the sticky - not the ones throughout other threads. But I have this 0 byte recording thing reintroduced.
