I wasn't meaning to imply that I thought 9.4 was somehow better than some other catalyst version. 9.4 is simply where I stopped trying.

I tried several nvidia cards, a couple of 8000-series and ending with a 9400GT. Mostly it was just trading one set of problems for another. I really thought I had it with the 9400GT, but the jubilation was short-lived. You can look for a thread started by me called something like "9400GT: Success at last"

Well, after using powerstrip to set the resolution to 720x576@50hz and rolling back the video driver and CCC to that on the supplied CD - I think this was key.

Will be testing things more (like DVD playback with 5.1 sound and AVI playback), but early signs are promising Smile

BTW, how can you tell the version of CCC you;ve installed, it just says the year in the Abot box?.

Within CCC, click on Information Centre, graphics software to check CCC and driver versions.

I know I mentioned this on another of your threads but I still think it's rather odd that you don;t see the same settings as me when we are both running 4xxx cards plugged into a crt via s-video. Mine allows be to set various resolutions up to 1024x768 and the refresh rate is fixed at 25iHz (Interlaced).

Perhaps your card is mis-detecting your TV's scart socket.

Under display manager, do you not have a force button to force different resolutions, refresh rates?

ati drivers can be customized by the card makers, and they often actually fix the drivers and use only working base sets to start from, so it's always good to try the included drivers first, then the latest updates from the card maker, then ati generic downloads...

on these modified driver sets, the catalyst driver version may not appear in ccc, only a long version number...makes it hard to figure out which driver set they're based on..but it's possible..they're usually between the standard catalyst release version numbers..
[pay most attention to "Direct3D Version" such as: 6.14.10.0621 if no catalyst version given]
and they can modify the visible resolutions, refresh rates, etc so the might not all show up..
but you should be able to select them in the 'force' button like he said..

but once you find one that works, stick with it...nobody really updates the video features once it works..

i am very happy with software decode if hardware deinterlacing works...it's roughly the same cpu usage, so no real loss...more reliable and better recovery from signal glitches too...[ffdshow] check it in dxva checker..no processor but beautiful video, same as ati full accell..ffdshow has to be setup right tho..

well, sounds like you're on the right track, post final details [driver/settings,etc] when you're sure...would be good to know what works..even if it's only pal land...lol so little quality info about these cards out there...
[ntsc deinterlacing is soo much harder to do..several tricks needed, where pal only needs two to match up framerates..]

I notice you're on Vista though, a brief flurry with Windows 7 showed that it could detect the 25iHz TV connected.

Yes, but it's still limited to the options above.

Thanks. Looks like it's 8.5... with a Direct3D Version of 6.14.10...

darn, i never got that far back for drivers when i was testing..that sounds like the original one that supported 4xxx cards or very close..
i stopped downgrading at around 8.6...figures 8.5 would be good...lol

well, more power to ya...glad you got it working..now i'm tempted to try again..

I get the symptoms you're describing if I have FFDshow post processing enabled. Make sure you don't have that ticked. Also, the only video decoder that gives me flawless pans is the cyberlink with h/w acceleration turned on. I have an ATI 2600 HD card.

I didn't post before but I still get lipsync problems on ALL sources (Live TV, recordings, DVD) Sad

Can someone please check this file to see if it's all going wrong before my PC even gets to play the file.

I'm also not convinced that powerstrip is doing it's job. dxdiag shows "current display mode: 720x576 (32bit) (60hz)"
