Quote:i am "glad" that you could reproduce the problem, but if the database is unable to find any string when query contains hebrew strings, its still doesnt explain why some work without a problem and some always have a problem.
the channels that work still query the same file with the same hebrew strings.
is there anything you would like me to do to check it?
"any hebrew" may be generalization, but certainly was unable to find any matches with the few hebrew strings I cut and past.

I see the same thing when using when I use SQLite query tools like SQLiteSpy to run queries like below. I can see that is the name of a show in the PROGRAMME table, but the query fails to find any matches.

SELECT * FROM "PROGRAMME" where name='מוסיקה ב-VH1';
Quote:do you want me to maybe arrange a remote desktop machine with gbpvr on it and with the hebrew epg file. then you can play around with it.
To be honest, no. I'm pretty busy with my day job at the moment, so I dont really have any time to delve into this.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what to suggest. If I had more time available I'd investigate the problem in more details.

If you're familiar with SQL, you could try doing a bit of investigation of string matching with hebrew using a tool like SQLiteSpy.

hi again
this is what the EPG download software developer said after checking this thread
"

It's not a problem with the EPG, there is a problem with gbpvr's ability to compare strings in Hebrew, they said that explicitly. There is nothing much to do unless they fix their engine...

Maybe the last thing to try... If their engine has problem with strings in Unicode, we can try to produce EPG with another encoding. Add to the megaepg.ini:

outputencoding=Windows-1255

This should produce the EPG file in the Windows hebrew encoding rather than UTF-8. I never tested this (only tested the opposite conversion into UTF-8) but think it worth a try."

i am going to check this today and will keep you update.
if i am having this problem, someone else is too so i want to have as much information possible posted

Thats great. I'm glad it fixed the problem for you.

Probably worth telling the author if the EPG program. Hopefully he can make it the default encoding.

GB-PVR supports EPGs from all around the world, it has no way of knowing what encoding is appropriate the xmltv files the user supplies. "Windows-1255" might be appropriate for your files, but not for other parts of the work, so it make no sense for the application to force it to read the file as though it assumed that encoding. Your EPG grabber knows is producing a hebrew xmltv file, so its only appropriate that it specifies this in the xml file it produces

Make sense to you?

of course it does.
and you are write. but it was funny that both of you suggested that the other one incorporates the change in the other ones software.
never the less, this problem was the only thing that i was searching in other software solution but the plugins, the customization, and the beauty of gbpvr made this an impossible chioce.

BTW, i have 3 friends that their only job is to install High end 3 million $$$$ home theater solutions for the rich people living here. they all install MS media center but for their home they choose only GBPVR.
