OK

First I made sure that I had all most recent patches. Then I did the test as requested; logs attached.

I also monitored the signal quality. On my HDHomerun it is the SECOND bar which shows signal quality and it stayed rock solid at 100% the third bar on my ap is labeled "symbol quality" and it was 100% as well. Signal strength was 94%.

The ts file created was 0 bytes; and the screen goes black if I try to play file from within the guide; but does not crash.

fiteclub Wrote:This is the same problem that stattik mentions in his thread "0 byte recordings on one QAM station (v1.3.11)" back on Jan 14 2009. The fix was the patches you provided for GBPVRTSMon.ax, GBPVRTSReader.ax and PsiParser.ax dated 2/5/2009. This fix worked for me. HOWEVER, I also had the TS Timeline issues that many people experienced and so I patched AGAIN with the new gb-pvr TS Reader that you mention at the end of the survival guide. This fixed the timeline issue BUT brought back the 0 Byte recording issue.
To be honest, I'm a bit confused by this. GBPVRTSReader.ax is not involved in recording (its not even loaded by the GBPVRRecordingService.exe process). Its only used during playback, so shouldnt have any impact when you hit 'quick record' (until you start playing that recording).

I will replace current TSreader.ax with older TSreader.ax (changing nothing else) and run test. I am pretty sure I have already done this but if this file is not involved in recording then I agree that it should have no effect.

It seems very suspicious to me that many of the people that have had this problem see it on CBS stations here in the states. Could it be something peculiar about their TS stream?

Yes.

If you want, with the newer version installed, you can even have PVRX2.exe closed when the recording takes place, then nothing should have even loaded GBPVRTSReader.ax into memory.

That is more likely than zero byte recordings being caused by GBPVRTSReader.ax. There is lots of funny things that broadcasters can do.

OK,

I can't reproduce behavior that I saw a few days ago. I get 0 bytes with both versions of GBPVRTSReader.ax

I also tried recording channels from the other streams on the same frequency; they all worked fine so it is something with that particular stream. Two of the streams that worked are from the same broadcaster as the bad stream. Is there any other diagnostic that I can run or stream capture that will help you fix this? It's got to be the same or similar to the other people that have had the same problem.

Good. At least that makes sense.

Just to check, if you set the mux to the 'DVR-MS Mux' does it record the channel fine?

With it set to TS Mux, create a "C:\Temp" directory, and add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Devnz\LogTSWriter=1 (DWORD), then try recording, then zip and attach the c:\temp\record-x.txt file.

I posted a question in the wrong thread (man do I need some sleep)

Anyway, I need a little more instruction on how to add the registry key entry. I tried a couple of times, but nothing shows up in C:\temp

Thanks

Sorry, that key was supposed to be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Devnz\LogTSWriter=1 (DWORD)
