Another observation:
when playing a HD recording it always starts dimmed and remains very often dimmed till paused and resumed. This does not happen with SD recordings where also stopping and resuming does not give problems.

Have this morning played again with the Biatlon file in Video Library, pausing, skipping for- and backward, stopping and resuming. All went well while in Recordings this gives sometimes problems and stop and resuming never(!) works. The NMT always crashed completely.
If you need telnet logs just let me know. I would realy like this issue to be solved Big Grin

If you send GBPVR and telnet logs I will be happy to look at them. Stick with showing the resume from the recordings menu problem and don't try any major skipping, I should also see GBPVR commands that control the dimming.

One thing that I noticed before is your startup is much slower than mine, is your E: a local drive?

My E: drive is on the WHS server, the same server on which GBPVR is running. The PCH's are connected through a gigabit network with this machine allthough it won't help much with the 100Mb connection from the popcorn Wink
For specs see my signature.
Will send the requested info in a couple of hours.

Is E: a physical drive (not recommended on WHS) or a share?

Martin

It is a physical drive so not subject to demigrator etc. It is also recommended on the Sage forum to use a drive outside the pool.

Have rebooted the NMT, started telnet session, played the H.264 file from the start and let it continue. Picture remained dimmed. Skipped 10 minutes. Picture became normal. After some seconds pressed stop. Started the show again with resume, the screen became black and the NMT does not react to anything.
Logfiles are attached. Let me know if you need anything additional.
Good luck!

I noticed in your putty log that when you attempted to skip in setting up the resume, the file actually didn't skip it got "stuck" and wouldn't play. I even have a hack in place to do a small jump in case there is a problem in the file and that skip didn't help. This bad area in the file likely caused the video decoder to fail but it wouldn't crash until the next play.

Code:
here 0 landed at 0 2615804946 2615804946
Before 2560 32 20 1208 680
RDC_MENU
Display is state 240 0
here 1 landed at 0 2615804946 2615804946
Waited 0 time seek 100000
Seeking ...
Enter seek time (s) : seeking to: 100000
short seek to 100000 s, pos 908999872
prebuffering
Before 2560 32 20 1208 680
now playing
here 2 landed at 0 2615804946 2615804946
Before 2560 32 20 1208 680

I can only explain this with the file being corrupt. Perhaps if you did only play/stop/resume, I'd be able to see more otherwise you aren't really testing resume.

Martin: after the skip the timeline displayed a time in excess of 10 minutes and played absolutely something different from the show. I was able to let it play for a short time before I pressed the stop button. I realise that this seems in contradiction with your observations from the log but that was what realy happened Sad
Will do a new test with play, stop and resume as requested by you and send you the logs.

From what I saw the skip worked but it hit the bad area a few seconds later and it is a coincidence on the stop. What you see on screen is the head of the demux what shows in the log is the tail. Until the buffer runs out at end of file or on error you won't see the tail.

Instead of skipping to 10 minutes you can try to skip to another time. I've thought all along that we are tackling two difference problems you can't resume, but I have been looking at why resume crashes the decoder.

Martin: 3 sets of log files are enclosed.
First one is just playing, stopping and resume at the very beginning of the file. Picture remained dimmed, but resume worked 2 times and 3rd time thrown back to recordings menu.
Second log: just started putty but got a black screen.
Third log: rebooted NMT, started putty. Skipped 15 minutes, played a little bit, skipped 5 minutes and stopped. On resume NMT crashed and black window.
