I tried sending the escape to other apps and they always react to the escape correctly. Zsnesw does react to the escape over vnc and with my wireless keyboard perfectly. For some reason it just doesn't like when I send it from the Hauppauge.
I tried sending a different char to zsnes and of course it always sees that perfectly. Weird..

I mapped a button on my game controller to "exit" from within the zsnes configuration. That works out great. I couldn't get the escape key to work on the remote either, but I don't use the hauppage remote.

Which remote are you using?

I had an old Keyspan remote that came with a usb IR adapter. The software that it came with allowed me to view the raw data coming off the adapter so I captured the keys off of my DirecTV remote, wrote a new definition file, and mapped them to keystrokes in the software. I did this for two reasons. Most importantly, I didn't want my wife to have to learn a new remote layout. Also though it kept me from having to buy anything new. This setup has worked flawlessly.

are you limited to sending keystrokes to an in-focus application?

Sort of, but I mapped a button to alt+tab to switch windows if need be. That really comes in handy if I just need to switch back to gbpvr to check something and then switch back to whatever I was doing (gamezone, tvip, etc.).

Also, I would certainly recommend this solution to anyone who is trying to decide what remote to use. I can set up any keystroke for any button in each application and use, as far as I can tell, any remote. I have a second monitor set up in my kitchen that is just a clone of the output to the TV. I have another remote that I use in there so that I don't have to carry my directv remote back and forth.

Hi,

I have attached a picture that shows how HIP is setup up on my system with regard to stopping the emulators (exiting) you can see in the picture that the RED button is mapped to {DECIMAL}

Cheers

What was the name of the software that allowed you to capture raw data from the adapter? I want to try to use my Comcast Cable remote with my PVR setup once I get a usb IR adapter.

It's the software that came with the adapter/remote. I don't think it will work with any other adapter, though. I use the URM-15A package here: http://www.keyspan.com/downloads/homepag...rm15a.spml

Turns out the trouble with Mame and Zsnes and others are that they use direct input and the Hauppauge remote sends the key up and key down codes too fast for these programs and they end up missing chars.
This post explains the trouble
http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=431
It also includes a program simkey that is used to slow down the characters that are sent from the remote to a rate that works perfectly with Mame and Zsnes.
I added a few keys to control the games in the default section of the irremote.ini and that seems to work fine with the emulators.

Does that mean you now have save state, restore state and other features now mapped to your remote? If so that pretty much makes the hauppauge usability for GameZone better now than the MCE remote.
