Running a Linksys Router here as firewall and AVG for antivirus. Have experienced all the problems so far including black screens on live tv and playing recorded shows. Patch seems to have helped allot but has not completely solved it. Sometimes requires multiple on/off on the MVP to get connected and play files properly.
Auto start servers is 2 have 2 D3A MVP's.
Have been leaving MVP on once I get it running ok because turning it off will take multiple tries to see recordings.

I am attaching logs after applying latest patch.

Hopefully you can see something from there.

My firewall is turned off and the antivirus is disabled as well.

I start 2 servers automatically as configured on the config app.

Sub,
I now am running GB-PVR only, with MediaMVP software installed but the services not running. But I now can not play DivX (.avi) files, and MVP crashed when I tried. Then, when MVP reconnected to the server, I could not play an .mpg file. So it seems that the events are connected. I am using the dongle.bin from MedaMVP 3.0.24088 if that matters, and your latest patch (1.0.2339.17626). I have no software firewall, AV or any other security software running, though I run in a limited user account. I do have DNS caching software running, with my DNS address in Windows set to 127.0.0.1, but it only operates on public IP address. And I am running Java 1.6.0-beta, if that could make a difference.

I tried the latest patch and the same problem occured. This gbpvr.exe is dated 28 May 2006, 08:48:50 Size 892K

My Machine's Setup:
Windows 2000 SP4
Kerio Firewall 4.2.2
AVG Free Addition
Nokia PC Suite
Trillian

Logs are attached and certainly do contain a lot more detail. The end of gbpvr.exe-1.log does look interesting

Cheers and thanks Sub for taking the time to look into this

OK - with all my normal resident programs killed/turned off then things have changed - for the better.
After PC Boot MVP connect first time as normal fine.
After putting into standby and back again it goes through the 'connecting to servers' (or whatever it says - the MVP is three flights of stairs away from this PC!) twice, followed by 'unable to connect to GUI' followed by 'connecting to servers' and this time it does connect. I tried it a couple of times and it is repeatable.

I shall now slowly re-enable the background jobs one by one and report later.

Update: Only a partial fix by disabling all background jobs. - the MVP now connects.
Although the MVP connects and displays the menu's, Playing LiveTV and recodings results in a blank screen - the second time round.
When the MVP first connects after a PC boot all works fine, with or without all background jobs running - it's when it goes into/out of standby that the problems start. Wierd.

Martin

p.s. Added a few minutes later. It seems as if it is Kerio firewall that may be the culprit - for stopping the MVP connecting a second power-on.
The MVP still won't play recordings or live TV after the second power on/off.
I'll see if I can get some logging from teh firewall - but I've had to hand the TV back to the kids for now.

This is actually normal, and is because it takes a while to actually detect the MVP has gone. You may find that running one MVP server more than the number of MVPs you have will get it to reconnect quicker.

I'd like to take another look at this problem on someones machine, remotely connecting via VNC. I'll want to install Ethereal to take a look at the network traffic. Anyone game?

Ideally on a setup with only one MVP.

Can you guys try this?

After a clean boot, the MVP has connected and can play a file. Click the green power/standby button on the MVP. Wait a full two minute. Then press the green power/standby button again to wake it up. Is it again able to play video?

OK, a couple of things.
With Kerio firewall running, the restart of the MVP just sits at 'contacting servers'

With Kerio killed, it does two or three 'contacting servers', followed by an istantaneous flash of what looks like the menu and then back to 'contacting servers', 'can't contact GUI', 'contacting servers' and then the menu.

Even after a greater than two minute pause before bringing the MVP out of standby, the video will not play - MVP hung, needs green button to bring it back to life.

Little bit from the firewall log, but I haven't had chance to cross check timings, but I've seen a couple of Packet to unopened port received UDP mvp ip address port 2186 to localhost port 6337 blocked. I'm trying to configure it to let the MVP have full access, but I have a feeling this may be one of it's built in rules - the snag with the freeware version, lack of control.

Martin

p.s. tomorrow, I'll have a try at config the router to open a port for vnc. I have ultraVNC installed and have recently installed ethereal.
However my PC desktop is as untidy as my real desktop ;(
