I have gbpvr on one computer recording all my shows. I tried to use another network computer to view the mpg files but Windows Media Player 10 says error downloading codex. I can watch them on the gbpvr but not on any other computer.

I am using a hauppage PVR-150 everything is default as far as I know with the card and gbpvr.

Please help!

Windows does not have an MPEG-2 decoder installed by default, so you'd need to install one on the machine in question.

I have a similar problem, but it's the computer that I make recordings on that has issues.

Media Player will 'play' the audio of a GBPVR recording, but won't show video. It must be a system wide issue, as I get the same 'no video' in Windows Movie Maker too...

The system must have an MPEG2 codec installed, as CyberLink DVD Player works fine.. What am I missing?

Thanks, and sorry for thread stealing - but didn't think it was worth starting a fresh one.. Smile

Try downloading and installing the MPEG2 decoder from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gplmpgdec

BlueMagician, have you tried explicitly selecting the Cyberlink video decoder in the config app, or do you rely on the "System default" setting?

The codec you suggested has had no effect/made no difference.. d'oh.

I select the Cyberlink codec by hand in the config app. I don't mean to trouble you with this as it's clearly not a GBPVR issue - I just thought I'd ask in case others had come accross it.

I can play GBPVR recordings fine in VLC player, so I know the files are good - I just want to be able to edit trim the recordings in Movie Maker, and something at system level is obviously screwy with MS side of things...?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Can you try to play a file, then zip and attach your gbpvr.exe-native.log file? It'll show us exactly what directshow filters and decoders are being used.

Sorry for the late reply.. the log you requested is quite short, so here it is:

As I said - GBPVR seems happy playing the files, but for some reason, Media Player and Movie Maker seem to be oblivious to the fact that I have the CyberLink codecs installed on my system.

Hope this helps!

If you set the video and audio decoders back to 'system default' in the config app, then retry it, and repost, it should show the decoders that Window Media Player will try to use. Unfortunately the log above forces the use of the Cyberlink Decoders, so doesnt show what the system defaults are.

Okay, I set the audio and video decoder to 'system default', and played a recording in GBPVR. This time the result was the same as in Media Player - audio fine, but black picture.

Here is the native log from that attempt:
Code:

This means that the system default is a broken codec right? Rather than fix the broken codec, how do I just make the CyberLink one the default (as we know that works fine).

Thanks for getting me this far! Smile
